Bennington motorcyclist killed in accident on Route 22
CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- A Bennington man was killed early afternoon when a truck crashed into his motorcycle from behind.
Vincent J. Mainillo, 78, was traveling southbound on Route 22 in Cambridge, N.Y., when he stopped abruptly a few hundred yards north of Main Street, causing the truck to hit his vehicle. Mainillo was pinned under the truck, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision happened around 12:50 p.m.
Police said that is was unclear if Mainillo was planned to turn, or if he stopped for another reason. A portion of Route 22 was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash. As of Monday afternoon, no charges had been filed against the truck's driver, George E. Bollmer Jr., of Schenectady, as police had not yet determined who was at fault for the collision.
The truck is owned by Sycaway Creamery of Troy.
