Bennington man found dead in School Street residence

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Police Department confirmed the death of a 40-year-old man, who was discovered at 337 School St. Monday evening, is being investigated in an apparent drug-related overdose.

The victim's name cannot be released due to the ongoing investigation, according to the Bennington County State Attorney's office.

"It is not considered suspicious at this time," said Cpl. Andy Hunt. The man was located by the Bennington office of probation and parole, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, during a random visit by the field supervision unit.

The deceased was transported to the chief medical examiner's office in Burlington; authorities expect toxicology reports could take as long as six weeks.

More specific information is still unavailable. Police confirmed that while the victim was on probabtion, the previous charges were not drug related.
