BENNINGTON >> A Morgan Street man is accused of touching a 5-month-old child.
Gregory Kramer, 50, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Vermont Superior Court Criminal Division Bennington Unit to a felony count of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. He was released without bail under conditions, among them that he have no contact with the parents of the child and to remain at least 100 feet from their home.
According to an affidavit by Bennington Police Detective Anthony Silvestro, on July 29 it was reported to police that Kramer poked a 5-month-old child in the groin area over his diaper, then grabbed the child there. He also made a joking comment while he did this. The child was being held by his mother at the time. Kramer then went back outside to do yard work.
Police questioned him and he said he was always joking around with the parents of the child. He declined to give a recorded statement.
According to the affidavit, in 2006 Kramer was convicted of a misdemeanor count of failing to comply with the sex offender registry. In New York, in 2000, he was convicted of "Sexual abuse 1st sexual contact with an individual less than 11 years old," a felony.
