Bennington man accused of assaulting woman
BENNINGTON - Arthur C. Crandall III, 39, of Bennington, pleaded not guilty on Nov. 21 to first degree aggravated domestic assault, second degree unlawful restraint, and a misdemeanor count of interference with access to emergency services. He was ordered to be held without bail while the case is pending.
According to an affidavit by Bennington Police, on Oct. 29 they responded to a call that Crandall had punched a woman in the mouth. Police spoke to the woman and were told that he had strangled her twice, then punched her in the face. They had been arguing about her going out onto the porch. Crandall reportedly did not want her in the company of certain males there.
Police were not able to immediately locate Crandall. It's not clear how he came to be in court on Nov. 21.
