Bennington Little League finishes regular season

BENNINGTON >> As the sun went down, the lights came up and for all 24 players — and the coaches and fans — it looked like a Major League Baseball scene at the Bennington Baseball Park on Tuesday night.

The two top teams in the Triple A division (11-12 year olds), The Pharmacy and the Knights of Columbus, went head to head to determine who was the best.

The Pharmacy won the championship, 5-3, behind the pitching of Brodie Krawczyk and Kadin Davis.

Krawczyk pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing only two hits and two runs and struck out nine. Davis finished the rest of the game.

Krawczyk and Davis, both all-stars this season, each had multiple hit games for the Pharmacy.

On the K of C side, Austin Grogan pitched, allowing five runs and striking out three in four innings.

Grogan reached base twice in the first four innings and scored two runs. Logan Broderson and Ben Ranzona also got on base twice.

The Bennington Little League begins district play, for both the 9-10 and 11-12 all-stars, on Saturday, July 9. Each Bennington all-star team plays a series against Brattleboro — five games for the 9-10s and seven for the 11-12s — to determine who moves on to the state tournament from District 2, Southern Vermont.

There are four districts in Vermont for the all-star team. The winner of the 9-10s will play at St. Johnsbury, while the 11-12 states are being held either in Bennington or Brattleboro, whoever wins the district.

In 2015, the Brattleboro 11-12s won, while the Bennington 9-10s did. Those kids won the state tournament and represented Bennington and Vermont in the regional tournament in Cranston, R.I.

The regionals this year would begin on August 5 if each team reached that far.
