Artists to show at Aurora gallery
BENNINGTON >> The Aurora Portal Gallery at 520 Main St., will be open during, and beyond, the Bennington Arts Weekend which is Aug. 5 through Aug. 7.
The Aurora gallery is under the directorship of Susan Jameson and Fidel Moreno, in collaboration with painter Greg Winterhalter, Emeritus Professor of Art, and the former director of the Burghdorff Gallery at Southern Vermont College.
Fourteen visual artists from Bennington, Rensselaer (N.Y.) and Washington (N.Y.) counties have brought to the exhibit a variety of works in painting and sculpture that represent only a small sampling of the rich diversity of visual artists living and working in the region.
Bennington Arts Weekend offers a large number of events in music, theater, craft arts and visual art that shows the remarkable cultural richness existing and prospering in the region for which Bennington serves as a center of creative activity.
The exhibit at Aurora Portal will run beyond the scheduled dates for the Bennington Arts Weekend into early September. An opening reception for the public and the artists at Aurora Portal is scheduled for Aug. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Refreshments will complement the art on exhibit. The following hours and days that the gallery is open on Bennington Arts Weekend: Aug. 5, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Aug. 6, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Aug. 7 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The works in the 14 Visual Artists at Aurora Portal infuse the viewer's experience with a focused intensity that ranges from the sublimely poetic to the dynamic interaction of media, form and visual composition that leads to uniquely individual expressions seen in this exhibit. Material process in the use of paint, ceramic, wood and metal connect the viewer with the important intrinsic nature of creative expression as seen here on Main Street in Bennington. Artists included in the exhibit are: Teru Simon, Maggi Randall, Tony Conner, Paul Katz, Anima Katz, Paul Stitelman, Marjorie Portnow, Sose Gjelaj, Berta Burr, Gregory Smith, Barbara J. Sussman, Gary Sussman, Barbara Ackerman and Greg Winterhalter. Subjects of landscape, abstraction, and the human image, are included in a range of uniquely interesting styles seen here.
