Arlington Class of 2014 announces valedictorian, salutatorian


ARLINGTON -- Principal Christopher J. Barnes, of Arlington Memorial Middle and High School, announces Bhumika Kishor Patel, Valedictorian and Christopher W. Daniels, Salutatorian of the Class of 2014.

Arlington High School’s graduation ceremony will be held Saturday, June 14, at noon in the AMHS gymnasium.

Bhumika Patel, in recognition of her academic excellence and achievement, received the University of Vermont’s Green & Gold Scholarship. As recipient, she will receive full tuition at UVM and will be majoring in Biological Sciences. Patel thrives on building relationships and looks forward to helping others. She plans to become a physician.

Patel served as class president and secretary for three years. During her senior year, she was elected secretary and served as Yearbook Editor. She was elected student body President during her junior and senior years. Also a passionate cross-country runner, Patel served as team captain during her senior year. Bhumika performed in excess of 270 hours of community service during her high school years.

Bhumika Patel has taken Advanced Placement courses in English Literature, Statistics, English Language, Calculus, and Biology. She is a member of the National Honor Society.

Patel is the daughter of Kishor and Pratibha Patel of Arlington.

Christopher W. Daniels is son of Ricky and Helen Daniels of Arlington.

Daniels has been accepted at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he plans to study Nuclear Engineering. When asked how he chose the field of Nuclear Engineering, Daniels stated his inspiration came during his junior year while studying Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, which he describes as a novel about technology, but a cautionary tale. Daniels performed in excess of 60 hours of community service, working with the Bennington Rescue and Arlington Fire Department and the Federated Church in Arlington.

Daniels has received academic excellence awards in AP English, Pre-Calculus, and History. He has taken Advanced Placement courses in English Language, Statistics, Biology, English Literature, and Calculus. In his junior year, he earned the highest possible score on the AP Statistics exam. Daniels, an accomplished participant in the AMHS Speaking Contest, is also a member of the National Honor Society.

The high school experience which impressed him most was his trip to France. Among the sites he visited were the Normandy beaches, and the cemetery where thousands of World War II soldiers are buried.

Christopher Daniels was also accepted at Clarkson University and UVM.
