Amish boy, 9, dies in accident on family's northern NY farm

HAMMOND, N.Y. >> Authorities say a 9-year-old Amish boy has died in an accident on his family's northern New York farm.

State police say the boy was operating a horse-drawn manure spreader Saturday morning on the farm in the St. Lawrence County town of Hammond, on the Canadian border 100 miles north of Syracuse.

Troopers say the boy fell off and hit his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the boy was alone at the time of the accident. A passer-by saw the accident and notified the family.

Police haven't released the boy's name.
