Adams named a ‘Rising Star' by magazine
Bennington native Emily Adams is among 40 "Rising Stars" recognized by the Vermont Business Magazine.
At 23, Adams, a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School, is the youngest to be chosen for this year's awards.
Each year the magazine selects 40 winners under the age of 40, chosen by a panel of judges for their commitment to business growth, professional excellence and community involvement.
Adams graduated from UVM Burlington with a bachelor's degree in human development. She now works for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont, located in Burlington, while she pursues a graduate degree at Norwich University.
A health care exchange specialist, Adams is interested in helping people, and hopes to pursue a career in Washington,. D.C., working with the government on health care reform.
"I work directly with the public to help them understand the changes that are going on with the health care system right now," said Adams, of the position she has held for just six months. "I love it."
Adams also works with children of incarcerated parents, veterans, and supports fundraising efforts with the Bennington and Rutland Opportunity Council.
"Not only is she an expert in the details of the impact of the Affordable Care Act; she explains the details clearly and with great empathy and compassion," Catherine Hamilton, vice president of strategic planning with BCBS said in a statement.
Chosen from among 150 other candidates who were also nominated, Adams will receive her award at a ceremony in South Burlington tonight, along with other recipients including Jeb Gorham and Michael Harrington, both of Bennington.
The honorees will also be featured in the November issue of Vermont Business Magazine.
