55 people to become U.S. citizens at Burlington High School
BURLINGTON, VT. >> U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services says 55 people from 30 countries are going to become U.S. citizens during a ceremony at Burlington High School.
The citizenship oath at the 1 p.m. Thursday ceremony will be administered by U.S. Magistrate judge John M. Conroy.
As part of the citizenship ceremony, students from Burlington High School will join in reading "The New Colossus" written by Emma Lazarus.
In the last fiscal year almost 730,000 people, including 650 Vermont residents, were naturalized as U.S. citizens.
