MONTPELIER (AP) - Admission to the eight historic sites owned by the state of Vermont will be free on the anniversary of the Battle of Bennington.
Bennington Battle Day is Aug. 16.
The celebration at the Bennington Battle Monument in Bennington will include a living history encampment, Revolutionary War cannons and other activities.
There will also be special events on Aug. 16 at Mount Independence in Orwell and the Hubbardton Battlefield - the only Vermont location where a Revolutionary War battle was fought.
The Battle of Bennington was fought just over the border in New York when soldiers fighting for the British marched toward Bennington in an attempt to seize weapons stored there.
