MONTPELIER - Speaker of the Vermont House Shap Smith has reappointed Danielle Martel of St. Albans to serve on the Vermont Commission on Women.

Commissioner Martel is employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Mousetrap Pediatrics in Milton, Vermont. She graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 2005, Vermont Technical College's LPN Program in 2006, and Community College of Vermont in 2014. She is currently serving as Immediate Past President of Franklin County Business and Professional Women, and is also a member of the Franklin County Past Presidents Club. Business and Professional Women strives to achieve equality in the workplace through advocacy, education, and information.

She was previously employed as a CNC Machinist for Superior Technical Ceramics, and as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington. During her high school and college years she worked as a Licensed Nursing Assistant at Redstone Villa in St. Albans. Commissioner Martel plans to open her own hospice and palliative care facility in Franklin County.

Commissioner Martel will be hosting a free panel discussion "Successful Reentry for Women in Corrections" with the Vermont Commission on Women on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, 5:30-7 p.m. at St. Albans City Hall. This free and open to the public panel discussion on Successful Reentry will focus on employment, educational opportunities, risk reduction, anti-recidivism programs, health care, and support for building better and stronger relationships with family, children and the community as a whole.

The Commission will share the findings from this forum with the legislature, policy makers, and various state and community organizations with the goal of creating a correctional system that is more responsive to the unique needs of the women.
