MONTPELIER (AP) - Sen. Patrick Leahy is convening a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for a state Supreme Court justice who's been nominated by President Barack Obama to a spot on the federal court in Vermont.

The hearing regarding Geoffrey Crawford is scheduled for Wednesday morning in Washington.

Crawford, who has been on the state Supreme Court about a year, had previously served more than a decade as a Superior Court judge in Vermont. Crawford was born in 1954 and got his undergraduate degree from Yale and his law degree from Harvard.

Vermont's federal courts currently are at full strength, but Judge William Sessions announced recently his plan to scale back to senior status, or semi-retirement.
