MONTPELIER (AP) - It's on to the Vermont Senate for a $685 million budget for transportation spending in the state.
As passed by the House on Wednesday, the T-bill pays for a wide range of paving and basic maintenance functions, as well as containing some new features.
One of them is about $84,000 for the Cross-Vermont Trial, to build a new bridge in East Montpelier to link segments of the recreation trail that's to stretch 90 miles from Lake Champlain to the Connecticut River. The nonprofit Cross Vermont Trail Association is to raise more than $240,000 for the project.
The bill also calls for studying the use of unused rest areas as transportation maintenance depots.
And it calls for upgrading 16.5 miles of railroad track linking New Haven and Leicester.
