HYDE PARK. (AP) - A 23-year-old Vermont woman has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge in the apparent stabbing death of the man who owned the building where she lived.
Jeanette Maxfield entered the plea Tuesday in Lamoille County Superior Court in Hyde Park.
State police say they were called to help the Lamoille County sheriff's department Monday investigate the death of a 48-year-old man, who was tentatively identified as Christopher Cafferky.
Police say it looks as though the man was stabbed. They're awaiting confirmation from an autopsy.
Lamoille officers say the initial 911 caller was Maxfield. They say she reported the death close to 1 a.m. Monday.
Police say Maxfield was taken for questioning and later was arrested.
During the Tuesday court appearance, Maxfield's attorneys were discussing the possibility of bail.
