MONTPELIER (AP) -- A Vermont committee appointed to conduct a national search for an education secretary is holding its first meeting.
The committee was formed after a law was passed that gives the governor the authority to make that appointment. It also elevates the state’s chief education official from a commissioner to a Cabinet-level secretary. In the past, the commissioner was appointed by a state board of education.
The search committee is meeting Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Vermont Department of Education to discuss its plans.
