Hawley reached base in all six of her plate appearances by going 5-for-5 with a walk. Her solo home run helped support her own complete-game pitching effort, in which she struck out seven batters. Trombley went 5-for-7, and hit a three-run homer during a second inning in which the Lady Eagles (4-5) plated a dozen runs.
Chrissy Squires went 3-for-4 for AMHS, while teammate Hannah Keyes went 2-for-2. The game was shortened to six innings in accordance with the high school mercy rule.
Arlington has now won three straight games, and will look to extend its winning streak to four when the Lady Eagles host West Rutland on Monday.
Mineau stymies HFCS
HOOSICK, N.Y. The Hoosick Falls varsity softball team still hasn't figured out how to solve Hoosic Valley pitcher Jen Mineau.
The Panthers were no-hit by the Indian senior at home on Thursday, and ended up on the short end of a 1-0 score for the second time this season against Hoosic
Mineau struck out 17 batters over the course of the game, the kind of performance that Hoosick falls head coach Charlie Weeden has had to get used to.
"Even through sectionals, there's nobody better than her," Weeden said of Mineau. "You can't get down on the kids for swinging and missing - she strikes out about 17 in every game."
HFCS's Rachel Quackenbush did her best to match Mineau donut-for-donut, allowing only two hits while striking out eight. The game's lone run came in the sixth inning, when Indian second baseman Jess Pipino walked, advanced to second on a groundout and took both third base and home on wild pitches.
"It was a tough way to lose a game," Weeden said.
The Panthers won't have to dwell on the loss for long, however; HFCS gets back in action this afternoon, when it hosts Schuylerville at 4:15 p.m.
