HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. >> In their last home match of the season, the Hoosick Falls golf team improved to 13-0 on the season with a 5-0 match win over Mechanicville on Monday afternoon.
Ryan Bloomer earned medalist honors on the afternoon by shooting a 39 in his 5-4 match win to help Hoosick Falls grab an early lead.
Mathew Smith followed with a 4-2 win in his match.
Connor Smith sealed up the Panthers win by winning his match 5-4.
Hayden Smith earned a 2 up victory in his match and Gavin Playotes finished the day off in style for the Panthers, picking up a 2-1 victory in his match.
Hoosick Falls will play their last regular season match on Thursday against Spa Catholic.
McGovern named NECC player of the week
BENNINGTON >> A couple of great performances led to Southern Vermont College junior Paddy McGovern being selected as the New England Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week for the period ending September 18, 2016 as announced by the league on Monday.
McGovern had a stellar week for SVC, scoring four goals to lead the team to a pair of wins.
He notched the first tally of a tight 2-1 double-overtime win over Vermont Technical College on Wednesday, and the rookie then went on to register his first career hat-trick in SVC's 3-0 shutout victory over Green Mountain College on Saturday.
This is the first time that the Mountaineer rookie is being honored by the NECC.
McGovern and SVC are back in action on Tuesday, hosting Lyndon State College for a 4 p.m. non-conference match that will be SVC's final game before starting league play on Saturday.
Brandmeyer and Smith earn league honors
BENNINGTON >> The New England Collegiate Conference announced on Monday its weekly award winners for the period ending September 18, 2016 with Southern Vermont College sweeping the men's cross country accolades for the third-straight week as junior Marc Brandmeyer was named the Runner of the Week, while freshman Davante Smith picked up Rookie of the Week honors.
It is the third consecutive top honor this year for Brandmeyer and his fifth career NECC Runner of the Week honor.
Smith is reeling in the Rookie of the Week accolade for the first time this season after classmate Bailey Hamilton took it home each of the past two weeks.
Brandmeyer placed first again for SVC on Saturday, placing seventh overall at a tough Johnson State Invitational.
The junior captain came through with a time of twenty eight minutes and two seconds, matching that of the time he posted last week, for another split of 5:38 per mile.
Smith had a stellar showing on Saturday for SVC, placing fourth for the Mountaineers at the Johnson Invitational.
His split time of 6:09 per mile on the 8k course helped SVC take fifth as a team in the tough-fielded meet, putting up a total mark of 30:36.
Brandmeyer, Smith and the Mountaineers are back in action this Saturday when they head down Route 7 for Williams College's Purple Valley Classic at Mount Greylock Regional High School.
Welch captures Rookie of the Week honors
BENNINGTON >> Southern Vermont College first-time senior runner Jordan Welch was named the New England Collegiate Conference Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week for the period ending September 18, 2016 as announced by the league on Monday.
Welch, who wasn't able to run last weekend, had a great showing at the Johnson State Invitational this past Saturday.
She helped SVC take third as a team with a new personal best, coming through at 26:03 for a time 1:47 better than her season-opening mark from September 3.
The senior rookie had a pace of 8:24 per mile to collect her first career NECC accolade.
Welch and the Mountaineers are back in action this upcoming Saturday, September 24 at Williams College's Purple Valley Classic to be held at Mount Greylock Regional High School.
