BENNINGTON — Over the weekend, the Catamount BMX park hosted a USA BMX Gold Cup Qualifier at their track in Willow Park.
Riders from all across the Northeast came to participate in Saturday's Gold Cup event, in hopes of qualifying for their specific group.
There were problems, however, with getting the race started, as thunderstorms and lightning delayed the start of the event.
After a nearly two-hour rain delay, Catamount BMX personnel, parents and riders themselves worked as fast as they could to clean up the track to get in the best condonation it could to hold the race.
"We had some amazing help, getting everything back together for the race after the rain delay," said Catamount BMX track director Julieanne Davis. "It was great to see everybody that was at the event come together and help make the race happen."

Because of the inclement weather over the weekend, Catamount BMX had to cancel the Vermont state qualifier they were going to hold on Sunday.
"I am deeply sorry for canceling the race," Davis wrote on the Catamount BMX Facebook page. "I do appreciate each and everyone of you who came out and stuck it out and raced and helped out on Saturday. It was an amazing feeling for me as a track director to see everyone come together. I hope some if not all of you could come up and join us again for a great day of racing and fun."
The State Qualifier has been rescheduled for July 24 with registration opening up at 11:30 a.m.
