ST. JOHNSBURY — They pushed No. 2 St. Johnsbury to the brink, but the No. 15 seed Mount Anthony baseball team unfortunately could not come away with the upset and fell to the Hilltoppers 1-0 in the first round of the Division I tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

In the bottom of the 11th inning, the Hilltoppers got an RBI single to score the game's only run and knock out the Patriots from postseason play.

Pat Powers and Carter Bentley each had a team-high two hits on the day for MAU, who had six hits overall.

Bryce Bush and Will Shea each had a hit for the Patriots in the loss.

Austin Condo pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing only two hits in his final start as a Patriot. Ryan O'Neill came in to relieve, allowing a walk and a hit.

"I'm really proud of my guys, they never gave up," said MAU coach Walt Parmenter.

MAU finishes the season with a record of 7-9.

MAU eliminated by Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY >> In their first round matchup of the Division I tournament, the No. 9 seed Mount Anthony boys lacrosse team were eliminated from postseason play with a 14-4 loss to No. 8 seed Middlebury.

Jeremy Bourgeois scored a team-high two goals in the loss.

Hunter Davis and Ezra Royce each scored a goal for MAU in the loss as well.

Goaltender Jackson Thibodeau racked up nine saves in net for the Patriots.

MAU finishes the season with a record of 8-9.

Eagles shut down by Danville

DANVILLE >> The No. 9 seed Arlington baseball team was knocked out of the Division IV tournament with a 8-0 loss to No. 8 seed Danville on Tuesday afternoon.

Danville scored three runs in the second to get out an early lead on the Eagles and then scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth, while taking on a run in the sixth inning to help them advance to the second round.

Jack Lane went 1-for-4 with a double at the dish for Arlington in the loss.

Lane also struck out four in his complete game performance for the Eagles on the mound as well.

Arlington finished the season with a record of 4-11.

MAU-BBA boys sectional golf

MANCHESTER >> The Rutland boys golf team, behind a even-par performance from medalist Logan Broyles, cruised to the Division I South sectional victory at Manchester Country Club on Tuesday.

Rutland's combined score was 311, with BBA at 336 and Mount Anthony at 355. Hartford competed but did not have a team score.

Connor Dee led the Bulldogs with a 74, a score good enough to qualify for the state tournament.

John Sebastian-Thorn was next with an 80, while Paton Marion had a 90 and Corey Connelly's 92 rounded out the scoring. For Mount Anthony, Jack Bushee was best with an 87, while Henry Salem and Matt Anderson were closely behind with 88. Ty Galle finished the scoring with a 92.
