BENNINGTON — At the Bennington Marauders banquet, coach Nicole Goswami and her mother Betty were honored as the new scoreboard was named for the pair.
Goswami was surprised by a special tribute by Jeanette Burhans that read in part:
"... This past season we were able to make a dream come true when we purchased our scoreboard. After years of fundraising we were able to turn our dream into a reality. This would not have happened if it had not been for the work of many different people, from parents to swimmers to coaches.
"However, one person went above and beyond in their dedication to this project. She had a vision and she was determined to see it through. She poured her very heart and soul into achieving this goal. So, tonight it is truly an honor to recognize the dedication and hard work of my friend and fellow coach, Nicole.
"As many of you may know Nicole was a Marauder herself. In fact, Nicole's entire family was very much involved with the team. Her younger brother Neal swam and I am sure her Dad was on the poolside cheering and helping out wherever he was needed. However, it was Nicole's mom who was truly the driving force behind the Goswami family. From what I understand, Betty was the swim parent that who went above and beyond what was expected of any swim parent. She volunteered countless hours in jobs that are far too many to count. It has been far too long since Betty's dedication was recognized.
So, tonight it is my pleasure to dedicate the Marauders new scoreboard. From this point on the scoreboard will be known as the Elizabeth "Betty" Goswami scoreboard in honor of Nicole Goswami."
Goswami said her mom was always willing to time, do concessions, served on the board of directors and, "most importantly, support my brother and I for over a decade."
The scoreboard is at the Bennington Recreation Center.
