GREAT BARRINGTON, MA. >> The Mount Anthony Union High School boys and girls swimming team lost their first dual match of the season this past Wednesday against Monument Mountain.
On the boys side, MAU lost 95-54 to the Spartans. Zach LaForest was the only boy to finish first in an event for the Patriots, winning the 50 meter freestyle. He also finished second in the 100 meter freestyle as well.
Kevin Gorry had a second place finish in the 100 meter backstroke event for MAU and Morgan Flynn added another second place finish for the Patriots, in the 200 intermediate medley race.
For the MAU girls swim team, senior Phoebe Hall finished second in the 200 intermediate medley and the 100 meter breast stroke, while Jena Staab finished second in the 100 meter butterfly race.
Senior Bridget Ahearn added another second place finish for MAU in the 50 meter freestyle as well.
No girl for MAU had a first place finish in the meet.
With the loss, MAU falls to 2-1 on the season.
The Patriots next meet will be at the Pittsfield Boys Club on Tuesday against Saint Joseph at 4:30 p.m.
MAU Youth Basketball Nights
BENNINGTON >> The Mount Anthony Union High School Athletic Department is once again sponsoring a pair of youth basketball nights for the boys and girls area youth basketball players.
The girls youth night will be Monday, Jan. 11, when the MAU JV-Varsity girls basketball teams play host to Hoosick Falls. JV action starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m. All girls playing in the Mount Anthony Youth Athletic Associated Basketball League will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys.
Boys Youth Basketball Night will be on Friday, Jan. 22, when the Patriots' JV and Varsity boys basketball teams host Otter Valley, with JV action starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game scheduled to be play at 7 p.m. All boys playing in the MAYAA Basketball League will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys.
At the halftime of each junior varsity game there will be a 10-minute exhibition game featuring two MAYAA teams. A drawing for a basketball signed by the varsity team will be held after the exhibition game for the MAYAA participants in attendance.
