BENNINGTON — The New England Collegiate Conference announced its first batch of weekly awards for the 2015-16 men's and women's basketball seasons on Monday with Southern Vermont College senior Turquoia Johnson taking claim to the women's basketball Player of the Week honor for the period ending November 15.
Johnson had a day to remember on Saturday in the Mountaineers' season opener, dropping a career-best 24 points to lead all players in SVC's 81-59 win at Lyndon State. She added nine rebounds, six assists and seven steals to help power both the Southern Vermont offense and defense while shooting 71.4 percent (10-for-14) from the floor in 26 minutes.
This is Johnson's first time receiving a conference accolade in her second season at SVC.
Johnson and the Mountaineers are back in action this weekend with their fourth consecutive Curry College Tip-off Tournament, taking on the hosting Colonels on Saturday at 3 p.m.
