WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. — Justin Ferguson and Marc Brandmeyer set a new bar for the Southern Vermont College men's cross-country as the pair finished in the top 10 at the ECAC championships hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock.
Their performances led the Mountaineers to a 14th place finish out of 40 teams. Only two other teams had two runners in the top 10, Williams and Amherst.
Ferguson scored a third-place finish in the 8K race with a time of 26 minutes, 31 seconds — 21 seconds faster than his time at the same course earlier this year. Brandmeyer was next for the Mountaineers, ninth overall with 27:05, 15 seconds faster than his previous time.
The next three scorers for the Mountaineers were Bennington College's Noah Froh, Corey Barcomb and Cameron Michael Curtiss, who all posted best times on the Greylock course. Froh finished in 29:09, more than a minute better than the race in September. Barcomb came in at 29:49 and Curtiss ran the 8K in 30:09. Junior Aden Fischer completed the course at 34:52.
The Mountaineers are now set to visit Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn., next Saturday for the NCAA Division III Regional Qualifier; the top 15 overall placements will move on to the NCAA National Championship the following weekend in Winneconne, Wis.
