MANCHESTER -- The 2014 Southern Vermont Sprint Triathlon will be held on August 24 starting at 8 a.m. The SVST begins at Hunter Park (Riley Rink) with an 8-mile bike ride to Emerald Lake, a quarter-mile swim (out and back, close to the island), another 8-mile bike back to Hunter Park and a 3.4-mile run that finishes through the path from the Rec Park to Hunter Park.
"The SVST is an event designed to introduce people to triathlons," said Stephen Murphy, the race director. "The reach is mostly local from Middlebury to Williamstown (Mass.) and Greenwich (N.Y.) to Brattleboro. However, there are some people coming from out of the area as well. While triathlons have grown in popularity, it is unique to have one so close to home and at an affordable price. Most tris cost $75 or more."
To encourage more people to experience a triathlon, SVST is offering a 20 percent discount to students and teachers (please contact Hunter Park 802-362-0150 or email@example.com to verify eligibility for the discount).
The proceeds from the event go to support Hunter Park to develop as a more diverse facility that will offer more to the community both in terms of healthy, fun activities and as a draw for people to make Manchester and the area a travel destination.
For more information, or to volunteer, please contact Stephen Murphy or Vanessa Beattie at 802-362-0150 or email smurphy
