BENNINGTON -- Brattleboro scored eight runs in the second inning, six of them unearned, as the Colonels defeated Mount Anthony, 14-5, on the baseball diamond on Thursday.
Things fell apart quickly for MAU and they were unable to recover.
Brody Farnum started for the Patriots and went two innings, with Devin Babson throwing the final five. At the plate, Mount Anthony’s Marcus Laflamme was 2-for-4, while Shea Mooney drove in a run with a double..
Jim Miles tossed a complete game for the Colonels.
MAU finishes the regular season at 6-10 and will find out their Division I seeding on Monday.
BBA baseball doubles up Rutland
MANCHESTER -- One day after coming into the game against Mount Anthony in relief, Noah Rizio finished what he started on Thursday against Rutland, firing a complete game six-hitter in a 6-3 win over the Raiders.
Rutland brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the seventh, but a nice defensive play by the Bulldogs forced a runner at the plate and Rizio fanned Andy Kenosh to end it.
The big hit came in the fifth inning off the bat of pinch hitter Jackson Rawson. With the bases loaded, Rawson came off the bench and blasted a three-run double over the right fielder’s head to make it 6-1, BBA.
BBA is 7-8 and finishes the regular season on Saturday against Hartford at 11 a.m.
BBA lacrosse rolls Woodstock
WOODSTOCK -- Burr and Burton Academy’s Morgan Bazyk led the Bulldogs with six goals and an assist as BBA soared past Woodstock, 18-8, on Thursday.
Four other players, including Hayley Sabol (4 goals), Lauren Miskovsky (2 goals, 2 assists), Katy Jones (2 goals, 1 assist) and Ryder Ferrone (2 goals, 1 assist), went for multiple scores for the Bulldogs.
For Woodstock, Annie Arthur led the way with four goals.
Lauren MacKenzie had seven saves for BBA, who improves to 12-2 and finish their season on the road at Rice on Saturday.
BBA softball falters late
MANCHESTER -- In a game that was tied at 1-1 after five innings, Bellows Falls took advantage of some Burr and Burton wildness to win 9-1 on Thursday in softball.
The Terriers scored three times in the sixth, then five times in the seventh to put the game away. Caitlyn Arellano pitched for the Bulldogs.
Seniors Arellano, Kyle Gatewood and Kya Davis each had a hit, as did Darien Halliday and Rachel Senecal. BBA drops to 3-11 and finishes the season with Proctor today and Black River on Saturday.
