GREENWICH, N.Y. -- In the final game of the 2014 regular season, the Hoosick Falls Central School baseball topped Greenwich 3-1.
Wyatt Whitman picked up the win, pitching a two-hitter while striking out nine Witches.
In the third, Hoosick Falls jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Tom Peabody hit an RBI single to bring in one run while the other scored on a two-out error.
Hoosick Falls is now 9-8 overall and 7-7 in the Wasaren League heading into Sectionals.
Sabol powers Bulldogs
MANCHESTER -- Behind a seven-point performance from Hayley Sabol, the Burr and Burton Academy girls lacrosse team rolled past Rutland, 20-5, on Thursday.
Sabol had five goals and two assists to lead the Bulldogs, while Katy Jones scored six goals and Morgan Bazyk had four goals and an assist. Lucy Bisselle had three assists and Aggie Bisselle had two goals.
In the cage, Lauren Mackenzie had six saves.
The Bulldogs are now 8-2 on the year and return to action on Monday at home against Middlebury.
Patriots mercy Bulldogs
BENNINGTON -- Coming off of a one-run win on Wednesday, the Mount Anthony Union High School softball team got its bats going quickly on Thursday against Burr and Burton Academy en route to a 16-1 win in five innings.
The Patriots scored 11 runs in the first to put the game out of reach.
Makayla Farrara went 3-4 with two singles and a triple while knocking in three runs.
Jenna Crowley picked up the win, allowing two hits while striking out nine and walking five.
For BBA, Caitlyn Arellano picked up the loss. The Bulldogs scored their lone run on a bases-loaded walk.
MAU is now 11-0 while BBA falls to 3-8.
BBA tops Patriots on court
BENNINGTON -- The Burr and Burton Academy boys tennis team remained unbeaten as the Bulldogs topped Mount Anthony, 6-1, at the Bennington Rec Center.
Peter Oh and Sam Cochrane each scored straight set 6-1, 6-1 victories at first and second singles. Noah Wetherald needed three sets to beat Hao Guo, 4-6, 6-4 and 10-6.
Flavio Iudica turned the tables at fourth singles, beating Coley Stillman 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). Both doubles teams for the Bulldogs won in straight sets as well as BBA improves to 11-0 and plays today at home against Hartford.
Matazinsky leads Tamarac past HF
CLUMS CORNERS, N.Y. -- Tamarac starting pitcher Briana Matazinsky had 11 strikeouts on the mound and drove in six runs at the plate as the Bengals scored 12 runs in the first to beat Hoosick Falls, 19-1.
For Hoosick Falls, Liz Ryan was 2-for-3 with a single and double and Ashley Stephens had two singles. Ashley St. Onge added a hit for the Panthers, who fall to 6-8 in the league and 6-13 overall.
BBA still unbeaten
MANCHESTER -- The Burr and Burton Academy girls tennis team upped its record to 11-0 with a 6-1 win over Mount Anthony at the Dana Thompson Rec Park on Thursday.
Jordan Harmon, Irene Matas, Gabby Vella and Eliza Breed all won their matches by straight sets. At No. 4 singles, Stella Oh outlasted Margaret Curtin, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) in a match that took more than two hours to play and ended under the lights.
Sam Greene and Julia Parks took the lone MAU victory, beating Megan Knight and Haley McGrath, 6-4, 6-4. The No. 1 doubles was a good match as well, with Silvia Velasco and Maria De Pablo topping Nicole Monick and Taylyr Tobin 6-4, 7-5.
Patriots fall to Wasps
WOODSTOCK -- The Mount Anthony Union High School boys lacrosse team fell to Woodstock, 10-6, on Thursday.
Jackson Thibodeau stayed busy in the cage, recording 16 saves for the Patriots.
Avery Peck led the Patriots with five goals, while Hunter Davis added the other. Layne Trafton had two assists.
MAU falls to 4-8 on the season. The Patriots return to action on Tuesday at home against Pittsfield.
Bulldogs beat Rutland
RUTLAND -- Burr and Burton Academy’s Tom Morgantini had three goals and goalie Mike Sztorc had 12 saves as the Bulldogs beat Rutland, 7-2, in boys lacrosse.
Carter Vickers added two scores, while Andrew Sherras and Max Pagnucco had the others.
BBA improves to 6-4 and travels to Woodstock on Saturday night.
