BENNINGTON -- Emily Cross and Emily Altland combined for 11 of Mount Anthony's 13 goals as the Patriots' girls lacrosse team topped Woodstock, 13-9, on Tuesday.

Altland led the way with six goals and an assist, while Cross added five goals and a helper. Courtney Gabrus and Annie Beck contributed the final two scores.

In net, Sam Mayer and Leah Olansky shared time, with each making six saves.

MAU is 3-2 overall and plays Thursday under the lights at Brattleboro.

BBA golfers top MAU

MANCHESTER -- The Mount Anthony Union High School boys golf team played its first match of the year against neighboring Burr and Burton Academy, falling 320-374.

For MAU, Ethan Anderson was the low scorer with an 82. He was followed by Logan Ripley's 91, Issac Salem's 95 and Henry Salem's 106.

For BBA, Kyle Boucher was the medalist with a 74. Joey Shehadi (81), Drew Herbert (82) and Will Tate (83) rounded out the scoring.

MAU is scheduled to play at Equinox today in Manchester.

MAU falls to Rutland

BENNINGTON -- Errors doomed the Mount Anthony Union High School baseball team on Tuesday as the Patriots lost to Rutland, 7-3.

Tied at 3-3 into the sixth, Rutland scored four runs in the seventh for the victory.

Matt Upright started for the Patriots, pitching five innings and allowing five runs, six hits and walking four.

Marcus LaFlamme, Ellis Baker and Upright all had a pair of hits for MAU, who drops to 2-3 and faces BBA on Thursday.

BBA softball

BELLOWS FALLS -- The Burr and Burton Academy softball team fell to Bellows Falls, 23-8, in a game shortened by the mercy rule to five innings.

Katelyn Reilly was the leading hitter for the Bulldogs (0-4) with three hits, including a double. Rachel Senecal was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Caitlyn Arellano was the pitcher of record, going four innings, allowing 13 hits. BBA travels to Poultney on Friday.

Catamount BMX open house on Saturday

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Catamount BMX team is hosting an open house on Saturday at the team's track in Willow Park.

The even will run from noon to 4 p.m. and is open to any child, teen or adult that would like to try out the track and learn about BMX racing.

In order to use the track, racers must have a long sleeve shirt, long pants and a helmet.

Benn Road Race May 4

BENNINGTON -- The 26th annual Steve Zemianek Bennington Road Race will be held on Sunday, May 4 beginning at the Park McCullough house in North Bennington.

This year's event is dedicated to the memory of local educator and marathon runner Gail Harwood. The race is produced and directed by the Batten Kill Valley Runners.

All net proceeds will be donated to the Mount Anthony Union High School Zemianek scholarship fund.

The kids race will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the 3.8K and 10K races will start at 10 a.m.

Registration is $15 in advance and $20 after May 1.

Runners can register online at runreg.com. Paper registration is available at Wills Insurance, Bennington Recreation Center, Off the Wall, Anytime Fitness, Bennington Sports Center and all schools in Bennington and North Bennington.

Benn. Basketball School

BENNINGTON -- Applications are now being accepted for the Bennington Basketball School for Boys. The camp runs from July 7 to July 11. Players aged 12-15 will practice from 8 a.m. to noon, and 7-11 will practice from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
