BENNINGTON -- Twelve Patriots were named to the Marble Valley League’s all-league wrestling team this week.

Selected wrestlers included: Calvin Call at 106, Tyler Raetz at 113, Troy Gassaway at 120, Taber Watson at 126, Dylan LaFountain at 132, Noble Shaler at 152, Jacob Woodside at 160, Damon Young at 170, Austin Price at 182, Tyler Mattison at 195, Jack Luciano at 220 and Jesse Webb at 285.

The Patriots won their 26th straight Vermont state championship and eighth New England title this season.

Non-MAU wrestlers on the first team are Austin Viens from Bellows Falls-Hartford, Brendon Kendall from BF-H, Nolan Viens from BF-H and Zach Allen from Mill River.

Local honorable mentions included two from Burr and Burton Academy in its first season as a varsity program. Caleb Giles and Sean Armstrong were chosen, Armstrong the first BBA wrestler to place at the state meet, finishing fifth at 126 pounds.

MAU honorable mentions were Bailey Willard and Darren Ruiz-Sauer.

Rutland had five honorable mentions, led by Corey Black, Charles Whittemore and Aaron Borkowski, all New England qualifiers. The Terriers from Bellows Falls-Hartford had seven honorable mentions, including Patrick Libuda, Kyle Record and John Harris, all New England qualifiers as well.

The coach of the year was Claude Weyant from Bellows Falls-Hartford.

Hoosick soccer club

HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Registration for the spring season of the Hoosick Falls Soccer Club continues until March 21.

Basketball Challenge in Arlington

ARLINGTON -- The 2nd annual Basketball Challenge will be held at Arlington Memorial High School on March 21 this year and is sponsored by the Fisher Parent Teacher Group.

Tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children 12-and-under if purchased in advance. Tickets will be sold at the Fisher Main Office. On the night of the event, tickets will rise by a dollar.
