ALBANY, N.Y. -- Hoosick Falls Central School wrestlers Nolan Foster and Luis Weierbach each won at least one match on Friday during the opening day of the New York state championships.

Weierbach actually won two and is into the semifinals at 120 pounds, where he'll be facing a familiar opponent -- Albany Academy's Matt Morris -- in a rematch of the Section II final.

Foster, at 113 pounds, won his first match in overtime against Section VII's Tanner Lapiene, then lost 4-3 to Section VI's Tito Colom. In the wrestlebacks, Foster lost 6-5 to Adam West of Section V to finish 1-2 in his first state tournament.

Can drive for dance team

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School dance team is headed to New Englands on March 8, and the team is looking for help to pay for transportation.

The team is asking for bottle donations to help raise funds. The team has an account at the Bennington Beverage Outlet on Northside Drive, and are asking for anyone willing to make donations to drop the bottles off at the store and indicate they are for the dance team.

Pownal youth baseball

POWNAL -- The Pownal Cal Ripken Baseball is looking for players for the upcoming season. The team is open to all Pownal and surrounding area children ages 4-12. Children ages 9-12 can play in Cal Ripken sanctioned tournaments.

There is no registration fee for any child. Sign-ups will be Feb. 24 and 26 from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Pownal Elementary School gym.

BENNINGTON -- Mt. Anthony Lacrosse Association will hold 2014 spring registration on February 25 and 26 at the Bennington Rec Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for boys and girls grades K thru 8.

Scholarships and equipment are available.

The season starts April 1.

Benn LL sign-ups

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Little League is opening registration for the 2014 season. Registration for the season is Feb. 19 and 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fire House on River Street.

All players 5-12 in the Bennington school district looking to play baseball this year need to register on one of these four dates.

Mack Attack sign-ups

ARLINGTON -- The Mack Attack AAU girls' basketball season will begin practicing on March 9, and sign-ups are ongoing.
