BENNINGTON -- The Burr and Burton Academy girls hockey team earned the No. 2 seed in the Lake Division tournament that begins this week.
BBA, coming in at 15-3-2 this season, will face off against No. 7 Mount Mansfield on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Riley Rink.
"Mount Mansfield is no slouch," said BBA coach Ed Lewicki. "They are a very physical team and play a gritty style of hockey."
Led by leading scorer Molly Burke, Mount Mansfield was 6-14 this season, including two losses to BBA -- 2-1 at MMU and 3-0 at the Middlebury tournament.
Middlebury is the No. 1 seed in the Lake with a 16-3-1 record, including a 5-2 win in the regular season finale against the Bulldogs.
In the game, Middlebury led 3-0 into the third period before Aggie Bisselle scored a pair of goals to pull the Bulldogs back in it.
Before the loss to Middlebury, the Bulldogs were 9-1-1, getting into a good rhythm heading into the postseason.
"That game was closer than the score indicated," Lewicki said. "I was frustrated not because we lost, but it was a little bit of a reality check."
Bisselle has led BBA in scoring with 31 points -- 15 goals and 16 assists. But the rest of the first line is extremely capable of lighting the lamp, with Jordan Harmon adding 20 points and Mary Leech 19. In fact, six players have at least 10 points for the Bulldogs.
"We only had one all-star (Bisselle)," Lewicki said.
The Bulldogs have outscored opponents 69-26 and a lot of that leans on the defense and goaltending. Kaylie Benson has led BBA between the pipes, while Lucy Bisselle, Ryder Ferrone, Clara Berard are the mainstays on defense.
The Lake Division final will be on March 5 at 6 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
