RUTLAND -- The Mount Anthony Union High School girls basketball team struggled to shoot in a 53-45 loss to Rutland on Thursday night.
Makayla Farrara was the leading scorer for the Patriots (12-3) with 12 points.
For Rutland, Lauren Fabian led the way with 14 points, while Jordan DelBianco added 13. The Raiders hit 9-of-11 free throws in the fourth quarter to keep the Patriots at bay.
MAU travels to Brattleboro on Tuesday.
Terriers nip Arlington
BELLOWS FALLS -- The Arlington Memorial High School girls basketball team could only manage 34 points in a 40-34 loss to Bellows Falls on Thursday night. Molly Elwell and Julia Lacoste each had 15 for the Eagles in a back and forth game that saw the final margin as the largest one on the night.
Arlington faces West Rutland at home on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
STOWE -- Burr and Burton Academy’s Caroline Kepler finished runner-up in the Giant Slalom combined snowboarding event on Thursday.
Kepler’s runs were third-fast on the day in each pass, securing her a second-place finish.
Cali Wadsworth was sixth for BBA, who also had Nora Lindberg earn a ninth-place finish.
Four in top 10 for BBA
LUDLOW -- Four Burr and Burton Academy girls alpine skiers finished in the top 10 at Okemo on Thursday.
Katie Bourque was the top Bulldog racer in third, behind Rutland’s Jessie McNeill and Hartford’s Mariah Palmer. McNeill had the two fastest runs on the day.
BBA’s Sanderson Kemp was fourth, 0.09 seconds behind Bourque, while Casey Apps was sixth. Lexi Alexopoulos scored an eighth-place finish.
On the boys side, BBA scored half of the top 10 places. The highest Bulldog boy was Richard Sherras in fourth, followed closely by teammates Tim Swinarton, Andrew Sherras and Tom Morgantini. Ben Alexopoulos rounded out the top 10 for BBA.
Youth nights at MAU
The Mount Anthony Union High School Athletic Department is once again sponsoring a pair of Youth Basketball Nights for the boys and girls area youth basketball players.
Boys youth night will be on Monday, Feb. 10, when the Patriot JV and varsity boys basketball teams host Burr and Burton with JV action starting at 6, and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
All boys playing in the MAYAA Basketball League will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys.
Girls youth night will be Tuesday, Feb. 11, when the MAU JV and varsity girls basketball teams play host to Rutland. JV action starts at 5:30, followed by the varsity at 7:00.
All girls playing in the MAYAA Basketball League will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys.
At the halftime of each junior varsity game there will be a 10-minute exhibition game featuring two MAYAA teams.
A drawing for a basketball signed by the varsity team will be held after the exhibition game for the MAYAA participants in attendance.
BENNINGTON -- Mt. Anthony Lacrosse Association will hold 2014 spring registration on February 25 and 26 at the Bennington Rec Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for boys and girls grades K thru 8.
Scholarships and equipment are available. The season starts April 1.

BENNINGTON -- Wrestling sign-ups are still taking place for youth wrestlers in the area.

Mack Attack AAU sign-ups
ARLINGTON -- The Mack Attack AAU girls’ basketball season will begin practicing on March 9, and sign-ups are ongoing.
The team provides participants with an opportunity to improve basketball skills and knowledge through a challenging level of play.
