SOUTHINGTON, Conn. -- The Mount Anthony Union High School wrestling team didn’t let a change in schedule affect them on Saturday, traveling to the Southington Duals and going 5-0 on the day.

Originally scheduled to attend the Easton (Penn.) Duals, the bad weather moved the Patriots to Connecticut.

MAU defeated Manchester 78-3, Norwich Free Academy, 78-0; Winchester, Mass., 52-15; Lyman, 59-11; and Southington, 71-5.

Nine of the 14 MAU wrestlers were undefeated at 5-0 on the day, including Troy Gassaway (120), who pinned all five of his opponents.

Tyler Mattison, at 195 pounds, also went 5-0 with four pins, scoring his 100th career win during the Duals.

The other unbeatens were Calvin Call (106), Tyler Raetz (113), Dylan LaFountain (132), Bailey Willard (138), Damon Young (170), Austin Price (182) and Jesse Webb (285).

Price scored four pins and a tech fall, while Young had four pins in five matches.

"Calvin Call and Bailey Willard had nice days, while Troy, Jesse and Austin continue to roll," said Mount Anthony coach Scott Legacy. "The competition was more competitive than the scores [indicate]."

Noble Shaler (152) and Jack Luciano (220) were 4-1, while Taber Watson (126), Darren Ruiz-Sauer (145) and Jacob Woodside (160) were 3-2 on the day.

The Patriots improve to 6-0 overall and hosts the MAU tournament next weekend.

Eagles fall in finals

RUTLAND -- The Arlington Memorial High School girls fell to Mount St. Joseph in the finals of the MSJ Holiday tournament on Saturday.

Three Mounties (6-0) scored in double digits, including 20 points from Gwen Breslen and 13 from Jenna Eaton and Monica Schmelzenbach.

For Arlington, Jenna Lacoste led with 19, while Molly Elwell added 14. The Eagles drop to 4-3 and host Proctor today.

AMHS dumped by Otters

ARLINGTON -- Otter Valley’s John Winslow scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a 68-40 victory over Arlington on Saturday.

Kai Norwood added 11 for Otter Valley, who upped their record to 2-2 on the season.

DJ Jennings led the Eagles with 19 points, but mounting foul trouble forced him to the bench. Brandon Gamble added 10 for Arlington, who drop to 0-3 on the season.

Bulldogs fall on road

FAIR HAVEN -- Fair Haven shot 12-for-16 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter as the Slaters topped Burr and Burton Academy, 43-34, on Saturday.

Hannah Nicholson led BBA with nine points while Maggie Oliver added seven in the defeat, which drops the Bulldogs to 1-4 on the season.

Panthers go 2-3

WARRENSBURG, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls Central School wrestling team went 2-3 at the Warrensburg Duals on Saturday.

The Panthers beat Albany Academy 42-33 and Morrisville-Eaton (Section III) 34-30. They fell to Beekmantown (Section VII), Hudson Falls and the host Burghers.

At 120 pounds, Luis Weierbach went 4-1, losing to Albany Academy’s Matt Morris, 1-0 -- his first loss in two seasons. Weierbach is 19-1 so far this year.

Both Weierbach (Army) and Morris (Williams) are headed to major wrestling programs at the next level.

Nolan Foster at 113 pounds had the best day overall, finishing unbeaten at 5-0 with two pins and a tech fall. Foster is 18-1 so far this year.

Colby Davendonis (160) and Mike Matatt (145) each went 4-1 as well. Garrett Wright and Shane Barss were both 3-2 and freshman heavyweight Bryan Thomas scored his first contested victory of the season.
