POULTNEY -- The Arlington Memorial High School girls basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to beat Poultney, 48-20, on Monday.

Molly Elwell and Brooke Hawley led the way on offense for the Eagles (1-2), with Elwell scoring 12 and Hawley a season high 11.

Julia Lacoste and Savannah Pike each had 12 rebounds.

"It was nice for Brooke to come out and have some shots start to fall," said Arlington coach Larry Andrews.

Cassie Pitts had eight to lead Poultney.

BBA topped in tourney

FAIR HAVEN -- The Burr and Burton Academy girls basketball team was doubled up in the first round of the Mary Canfield Memorial Tournament, falling 66-33 to Proctor.

Jordan Mitchell scored a game-high 18 for the 3-0 Phantoms, including four 3-pointers.

BBA (1-2) was led by Hannah Nicholson’s 12 points.

MAU tops Essex

RUTLAND -- Mount Anthony girls basketball team used a 22-7 second quarter to win the opening game of the North-South challenge, 62-42, over Essex on Saturday.

Makayla Farrara led the Patriots with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Morgan Hewitt chipped in with 10 and Kathryn Frasier added nine.

Mount Anthony’s defense was up to the task as well, forcing 18 turnovers on the day. Katie Sheftic led Essex with 16 points.
