Eagles win opener

LUDLOW -- The Arlington Memorial High School girls basketball team opened its season with a 60-25 thumping of Black River on the road on Monday.

Julia LaCoste led the way with 16 points for the Eagles, while Molly Elwell was right behind her with 15 points in the winning effort. Elwell hit three three-pointers in the game, while LaCoste hit two treys.

Riley Lane had 10 points and Becca Solari had eight.

Elsa Eliasson led the Presidents with 11 points.

"We have some things to work on," coach Larry Andrews said. "Defensively, I know they scored 25, but hopefully we have better to come. We got in foul trouble early. We ironed it out in the second half, played a little better."

Andrews said that the production from Elwell and LaCoste are just what the Eagles are going to need this season.

"For the first game I was very happy. That was right where we need to be with those two."

Arlington is 1-0 with the win, and plays next on Thursday at West Rutland.
