ESSEX -- Megan Grabher’s second-period goal broke a tie and sent Burr and Burton past host Mount Mansfield, 2-1.

Aggie Bisselle also scored and Kaylie Benson stopped 34 shots for BBA (2-1).

MMU’s Lauren Hagerty scored in the first period, while Fiona Dulude made 22 saves.

Hurricanes sweep past Burr and Burton

HARTFORD -- John Borchert racked up four goals as host Hartford topped Burr and Burton Academy, 9-2.

Jeff Lyford and Andrew Atkinson each scored twice and Jeremy McCloin also tallied for Hartford, who improves to 1-1 on the year.

Ingison Maxwell and Nate Eisenman produced goals for the Bulldogs, who drop to 0-3.

Indians fall to Greenwich

CAMBRIDGE -- The Cambridge Central School girls basketball team fell to Greenwich, 49-33, on Wednesday night.

Sarah Cuddihy led the way with 10 points for the Indians, who drop to 1-1 on the season. Lilly Synder added eight, while Helen Mooney pitched in with seven.

Cambridge will face Hoosic Valley at home on Friday.

Hoop shoot contest

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Elks Lodge will be holding its annual hoop shoot contest on Sunday, December 29. The event will take place at the Mount Anthony Union High School gymnasium.

Registration starts at 12:30 p.m., and the competition will start at 1.

The contest is for boys and girls ages 8-13, with their age being determined by how old they are on April 1, 2014. A birth certificate is required at registration.

Mountaineer athletes holding toy drive

BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be hosting a toy drive to benefit BROC Community Action in Southwestern Vermont from now until Dec. 16.

Donations can be dropped off at the Mountaineer Athletic Center on the SVC campus or at the Yankee One Dollar Store on Northside Drive in Bennington.

Boxes will also be available at each of the two women’s basketball games before the winter break, on Dec. 7 and Dec. 13.

SVC student-athletes will be collecting donations at the Yankee One Dollar Store this upcoming Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and the next Saturday. On the weekend dates, the Mountaineers will be at the store from 1-3 p.m., and on the weekdays from 4-6 p.m.

MAU youth wrestling

BENNINGTON -- Mount Anthony youth wrestling sign-ups will be held in the high school cafeteria on Tuesday, Dec. 17 and Friday, Dec. 20 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Both sign-ups are prior to MAU wrestling matches.

Registration is $40 per wrestler with fundraiser, or $65 without fundraiser, and $30 for each additional family member.
