HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Ken Marbot had a perfect 300 game as the Hoosick Falls bowling team defeated Hadley-Luzerne on Tuesday by the score of 4-0.

It was Marbot’s first 300 in school competition, according to Hoosick Falls coach Bob Lang.

Hoosick Falls (8-0) scored 3,581, while Hadley-Luzerne (4-4) had total pins of 2,480. Leading bowlers for the Panthers included Marbot, who rolled a three-game series of 716. A.J. Hurlburt was next with a 258-688 and Jennifer Sargood was third at 268-583. Josh McCart (200-583), Stephen Surdam (194-541), and Kyla Day (161-470) rounded out the scorers.

Hadley-Luzerne was led by Drew Cirillo with a 199-484.

"This was another great score of 3,581 by the team for just their second match of the season. We had some good bowling by everyone on the team," Lang said. "I hope the team can continue to bowl as well as we have in our first two matches."

‘Neers top Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Southern Vermont College men’s basketball team trailed early in the second half, but came back and held on late to topple Elms 85-79 in both teams’ New England Collegiate Conference opener on Tuesday.

After Antoine White made 1-of-2 free throws to give SVC (4-1) a four-point lead with 1:25 left, Isaiah Odunlami made a layup to cut the lead in half.

Rayshawn Taylor was fouled with 26 seconds left and hit both free throws to make it 81-77, but Kenny Lockett hit a layup to pull Elms (1-5) back within one possession.

After a timeout by the Mountaineers, DeShawn Hamlet hit a layup and was fouled. He missed the free throw, but freshman Davante Jordan snagged the rebound and hit two free throws to ice it for SVC.

DeShawn Hamlet led the Mountaineers with 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting, adding nine rebounds as well.

Dolapo Olugbile had 21 points and eight rebounds, while Taylor pitched in with 19.

Elms had four players in double figures and Jerry Buchanon, led the Blazers with 23 points.

Lockett had 18, while Conny Ihearahu added 11.

Elms beats SVC

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Southern Vermont College women’s basketball team captain Amber Flagg led all scorers with 19 points, but a strong second half by Elms gave the Blazers a 62-44 win in the teams’ NECC opener.

Flagg’s 19 points came on 8-of-19 shooting from the floor. She also added five steals and three assists.

Sarah McDonald pitched in 10 points in only 16 minutes on the floor for the Mountaineers (1-5).

For Elms (3-2), Gianna Youngblood led the way with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.

MAU youth wrestling

BENNINGTON -- Mount Anthony youth wrestling sign-ups will be held in the high school cafeteria on Tuesday, Dec. 17 and Friday, Dec. 20 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Both sign-ups are prior to MAU wrestling matches.

Registration is $40 per wrestler with fundraiser, or $65 without fundraiser, and $30 for each additional family member.

HOOSICK, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls Soccer Club is now organizing spring travel teams.

The club is looking to register six teams: fourth grade boys/girls, fifth grade boys/girls, and sixth grade boys/girls.

Placement in the travel league is dependent on the number of players for each team.

Storm fundraiser

BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Storm will host a 5-on-5 flag football tournament on Dec. 7 now to be played at the Beech Street Field.

It is a no lineman rush format with modified rules, and the first game will start at 10 a.m.

Registration will start at 9 a.m., and the cost will be $125 per team. There are no limits on the amount of players for a team.
