WESTON, Mass. -- The No. 5 seeded Southern Vermont College women’s soccer team battled for 90 minutes in the opening round of the New England Collegiate Conference tournament against No. 4 seed Regis College on Tuesday, but they were unable to rebound from a two-goal deficit in the second half in a 2-1 loss.
Jackie Rocheville opened the scoring in the seventh minute, taking advantage of a corner kick and putting it past SVC goalie Katie Raymond.
Regis doubled the lead in the 64th minute, when Joana Rosa took a through ball from Kristen Abreu and beat the keeper 1-on-1.
Southern Vermont didn’t quit and found the net in the 78th minute, as Michelle Flores scored her third goal of the year on a penalty shot to cut the deficit.
The Mountaineers end the year with a 6-9-1 record.
Open gym time
MANCHESTER -- Manchester Parks and Recreation will be hosting open gym nights at the MEMS gyms.
Gym time will being on Nov. 5, and run Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until Nov. 21.
Each team will have a designated night in the gym
On Tuesdays starting at 6 p.m. will be boys grade 3-4, and at 7 p.m. will be boys grade 5-6.
On Wednesdays, girls grade 3-4 will begin at 6 p.m., and girls and boys grade 5-6 will be at 7 p.m.
On Thursdays, at 6 p.m. will be boys and girls in grades 1-2, and at 7 p.m. will be for girls grades 5-6.
Players must be registered for the MPR Youth Basketball Program prior to participating. Registration will not be available on site. Parents can sign up by calling the Rec at 362-1439, or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dollar Skate night
MANCHESTER -- The Burr and Burton Academy varsity hockey team is hosting a Dollar Skate night at Riley Rink in Manchester on Sunday, November 3 from 1:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
The cost is $1 for ages 13-and-under, and $2 for over 3.
All proceeds benefit Friends of Hockey, which supports the varsity hockey program.
BYB to host skills camp
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Youth Basketball school starts on November 3 at Mount Anthony Union Middle School and runs on Sundays until December 15.
The school is for boys and girls from grades 1 to 4. Girls start from 8 to 10 a.m., while boys play 10 to noon.
Emphasis will be on dribbling, passing, shooting, gameplay, rules, individual and team drills, fun games and all fundamentals.

Youth Ski League
WOODFORD -- The Prospect Mountain Bill Koch Youth Ski League will hold an informational meeting for new and returning families on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Prospect Mountain Ski Center Lodge.
A ski and clothing swap/sale will follow the meeting. If you wish to sell any times, please plan to drop them off at 1:45 p.m. the day of the meeting.
The league is for youths age 4-13, and introduces young people to the sport of cross-country skiing.

AMHS hosts Fall Fun Run at Rec Park
ARLINGTON -- Arlington Memorial High School will host a Fall 5K Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Arlington Recreation Park in preparation for the town’s annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.
Registration for the run will begin at 9 a.m. with the race set to start at 10 a.m. Walkers are welcome in the run.

SVC basketball to host skills clinics
BENNINGTON -- Southern Vermont College Basketball are hosting Sunday morning skills clinics, in the Mountaineer Athletic Center on the SVC campus.
Designed for boys and girls in grades 1-12, clinics will be directed by head men’s basketball coach Dan Engelstad, assistant coach A.J. Mahar and staff.
Cost is only $10 per player if signed up by 9 p.m. that Saturday, or $12 at the door. All registrations are cash only.
Adult League Basketball

The league generally plays three days a week: on Wednesday evenings and on Saturday and Sunday mornings. To offset the cost of insurance there is a $30 fee for the year, or you can pay $2 for each individual game you play.
Benn youth wrestling
BENNINGTON -- Bennington Youth Wrestling will be offering pre season youth clinics, beginning on September 4.
The clinics will run through November 6 and are offered on Wednesday nights from 6-7 p.m.
