BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont College women’s volleyball team remained unbeaten in New England Collegiate Conference play with a 3-1 road win against Daniel Webster on Saturday.
SVC improves to 9-7 overall and 6-0 in the conference -- a likely host for the NECC tournament coming up in a couple of weeks.
SVC won with set scores of 25-21, 25-23, 20-25 and 26-24.
Jessica Delgado led the Mountaineers with 13 kills on the day, while Vanessa Ruelas racked up 31 digs. The Mountaineers also had nine service aces en route to the victory.
Men’s soccer falls short
BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont College men’s soccer team came up short, 2-1, against Regis College on Senior Day at Everett Field on Saturday.
Nick Tavares scored the game-winner for the Pride in the 76th minute, spoiling the Mountaineer festivities.
Regis scored with 30 seconds left in the first half on a goal by Prince Mukala, but SVC scored with nine minutes remaining on a tally by senior captain Pierre Massena, a penalty kick.
Chris Dunham made six saves in the loss for the Mountaineers, who are 3-11-1 and 1-4-1 in the New England Collegiate Conference.
Late goal dooms SVC
BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont College women’s soccer team had its five game win streak snapped in a 2-1 loss to Elms on Senior Day at Everett Field on Saturday.
Allyson Witaszek scored to open the scoring for the Blazers in the first half. They led 1-0 until the 53rd minute when junior Lixsa Arlet Sandoval knocked home her second of the year to tie it at 1-1.
But with less than two minutes to play, Christina Goodchild scored the winner for the Blazers.
Katie Raymond stopped six shots for SVC, who fall to 5-6-1 overall and 4-2 in the NECC.
AMHS hosts Fall 5K Fun Run
ARLINGTON -- Arlington Memorial High School will host a Fall 5K Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Arlington Recreation Park in preparation for the town’s annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.
Registration for the run will begin at 9 a.m. with the race set to start at 10 a.m.
Walkers are welcome in the run.

Wicked Creepy Cyclocross
BENNINGTON -- The 6th annual Wicked Creepy Cyclocross Race returns to Willow Park this year on Sunday, October 27.
A community supported race, the race will offer unique medals and Vermont produced merchandise as prizes in races for all ability levels. There will be equal cash payouts in both of the elite categories. Food will be available, and race proceeds will benefit Mount Anthony’s Nordic ski team.

VBCA coaching clinic
BURLINGTON -- The Vermont Basketball Coaches Association will be hosting its annual coaching clinic on October 26-27 at UVM’s Patrick Gymnasium.
The two-day event will help to teach coaches new ideas about coaching basketball and player development. On the 26th, coaches will take in two UVM basketball games, with a conference on general basketball topics set for after the games.
On the 27th, several seminars will be held on various basketball topics.

SVC baseball clinics
BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont College baseball coach Dave Gage will be offering Saturday School morning clinics throughout October for baseball players of all ages.
Each session will cost $10 per player, with each week focusing on a different skill set.
The clinics will run from 9-10 a.m. at Bill Epstein Field on the SVC campus.
The 26th will focus on bunting and baserunning.

5K Pumpkin Brigade
Johnsonville, N.Y. -- The 2nd annual 5K Pumpkin Brigade race will take place on October 26.
The race starts at 10 a.m. at the Johnsonville Fire House.

If you register before October 24, the cost will be $20 for adults, and $10 for kids age 15-and-under. There will also be a Kids Run, which will cost $2 or will be free with parent’s paid 5K registration.
Registration will be available on raceday starting at 9 a.m., and the cost will increase by $5.
SVC basketball to host skills clinics
BENNINGTON -- Southern Vermont College Basketball are hosting Sunday morning skills clinics, in the Mountaineer Athletic Center on the SVC campus.
Designed for boys and girls in grades 1-12, clinics will be directed by head men’s basketball coach Dan Engelstad, assistant coach A.J. Mahar and staff.
Cost is only $10 per player if signed up by 9 p.m. that Saturday, or $12 at the door. All registrations are cash only.
Adult League Basketball
BENNINGTON -- Any adult interested in playing basketball can contact Jerry at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to be added to an email list. The league generally plays three days a week: on Wednesday evenings and on Saturday and Sunday mornings. To offset the cost of insurance there is a $30 fee for the year, or you can pay $2 for each individual game you play.
Benn youth wrestling
BENNINGTON -- Bennington Youth Wrestling will be offering pre season youth clinics, beginning on September 4.
The clinics will run through November 6 and are offered on Wednesday nights from 6-7 p.m.
