SARATOGA SPRINGS -- The Cambridge Central School football team kept its perfect season going as the Indians downed Bishop Gibbons-Spa Catholic 46-0 on Friday.

Chris Warnke and Caleb Rowland each scored two touchdowns in the win, with both running backs also going over 100 yards rushing. One of Warnke’s touchdowns came on the defensive end of the ball, as he returned an interception for a score.

Ethan English connected with Austin Dean on a touchdown pass during the game, Rowland sacked a BG-SC quarterback in the end zone for a safety, and Sean Herbig returned a fumble for a touchdown.

The Indians are now 5-0 on the year.

Trail Run

THETFORD -- At the Thetford Woods Trail Run on Saturday, Mount Anthony Union High School’s Will Buckley finished in the top 40 out of over 750 racers.

Buckely finished in 37 overall throughout five divisions, finishing with a time of 18 minutes and 1 second. Teammate Andrew Brandmeyer finished 17 places behind him, crossing the line in 18:16. Andy Barlow was also able to crack the top 100, finishing in 96th with a time of 18:47.

For the girls, Erica Hale finished 93rd with a time of 22:40.

For the Burr and Burton Academy team, Lauren Miskovsky was able to finish in 83 place, running a 22:22. For the boys, Simon Aborn was the top Bulldog finisher in 148th, running the course in 19:11.

AMHS girls fall

LUDLOW -- Playing in a Saturday afternoon game, the Arlington Memorial High School girls soccer team fell to Black River 6-0 on Saturday.

The Eagles trailed 2-0 after the first half, but in the second Black River was able to add four goals to put the game out of reach for the Eagles.

Coach Dan Wood said that Julia Lacoste played a great game up top, even though she could not find the net. In defense, he noted the play of Hailey Davis and Becca Solari.

The Eagles fall to 3-6 with the loss.

Bat Brats golf tourney

BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont Bat Brats will be hosting a 4-person golf scramble at Mount Anthony Country Club on October 13.

The Bat Brats are a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the positive aspects of amateur softball. The group manages two travel softball teams on a strictly volunteer basis. The tournament is $80 per person.

3rd annual Jeff Charbonneau Classic

MANCHESTER -- The Friends of Hockey will host its 3rd annual Jeff Charbonneau Classic at Manchester Country Club on Sunday, October 20.

The event will benefit the Burr and Burton Academy varsity hockey program, and is in rememberance of Jeff Charbonneau, a 2005 graduate of BBA who tragically passed away in 2010.

The Classic will be a shotgun scramble format, with play starting at noon that Sunday.

Entry fee is $100 per person, which will include the round of golf, a cart, and dinner.

SVC baseball clinics

BENNINGTON -- The Southern Vermont College baseball coach Dave Gage will be offering Saturday School morning clinics throughout October for baseball players of all ages.

Each session will cost $10 per player, with each week focusing on a different skill set.

The clinics will run from 9-10 a.m. at Bill Epstein Field on the SVC campus.

The Oct. 12th clinic will focus on pitching, the 19th will focus on defense, and the 26th will focus on bunting and baserunning.

Basketball clinic

ARLINGTON -- The University of Vermont women’s basketball team will be hosting a free basketball clinic on October 12 for boys and girls grades 2-8.

The clinic will focus on skill development and fundamentals. Current players and coaches will be in attendance at the clinic.

The program will be held in the Arlington Memorial High School Gym from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School Athletic Department is sponsoring a pair of Youth Soccer Nights for the girls and boys area youth league soccer players.

Boys Youth Night will be Wednesday, Oct. 9 when the MAU Varsity Boys Soccer Team plays host to Rutland in a 6 p.m. game. Girls Youth Soccer Night will be Thursday, Oct. 10 when the Patriot Varsity Girls Soccer team hosts Rutland at 6 p.m. All boys and girls playing in the area youth soccer leagues will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys on these respective nights. Parents are asked to please accompany their children at the game or arrange supervision by a coach or another parent.

At the halftime of each night, there will be a 10-minute exhibition game featuring area youth soccer players. A drawing for a free soccer ball signed by the varsity Patriots will be held after the exhibition game for the youth players in attendance.

5K Pumpkin Brigade

Johnsonville, N.Y. -- The 2nd annual 5K Pumpkin Brigade race will take place on October 26.

The race starts at 10 a.m. at the Johnsonville Fire House.

If you register before October 24, the cost will be $20 for adults, and $10 for kids age 15-and-under. There will also be a Kids Run, which will cost $2 or will be free with parent’s paid 5K registration.

Registration will be available on raceday starting at 9 a.m., and the cost will increase by $5.

SVC basketball to host skills clinics

BENNINGTON -- Southern Vermont College Basketball will begin hosting Sunday morning skills clinics October 13, in the Mountaineer Athletic Center on the SVC campus.

Designed for boys and girls in grades 1-12, clinics will be directed by head men’s basketball coach Dan Engelstad, assistant coach A.J. Mahar and staff.

Cost is only $10 per player if signed up by 9 p.m. that Saturday, or $12 at the door. All registrations are cash only.

Adult League Basketball

BENNINGTON -- Any adult interested in playing basketball can contact Jerry at jerwall@gmail.com for more information and to be added to an email list. The league generally plays three days a week: on Wednesday evenings and on Saturday and Sunday mornings. To offset the cost of insurance there is a $30 fee for the year, or you can pay $2 for each individual game you play.

Benn youth wrestling

BENNINGTON -- Bennington Youth Wrestling will be offering pre season youth clinics, beginning on September 4.

The clinics will run through November 6 and are offered on Wednesday nights from 6-7 p.m.
