John James tournament delayed
BENNINGTON -- The John James tournament was rained out on Thursday night, pushing the first-day games back to today.
Host Mount Anthony Union High School will play Arlington Memorial High School at 4 p.m. at Spinelli field, while Burr and Burton Academy and Brattleboro will play at 5 p.m. at the Vets Home field.
Storm to donate money from game
MANCHESTER -- The Southern Vermont Storm have announced that a portion of the gate revenues raised from Saturday’s game against the Vermont Ravens will be donated to autism research. The Houng Dog food cart, which will provide concessions during the game, will also donate part of their proceeds to Burr and Burton youth football. Any youth player wearing their jersey to the game will get in free.
Run for the Pin
BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School wrestling team will be hosting a 5K cross country run at Willow Park on October 6. The race, which will begin at 9 a.m., will help raise money for the wrestling program.

The entry fee will be $20, and will include a t-shirt. When pre-registering, please list what size shirt you would like.
Race-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and run to 8:30 a.m. at the Willow Park Pavilion.
There will be awards for the youngest boy and youngest girl to finish first, the first man and first woman to cross the finish line, and for the first man and first woman over 50 to cross the line.

Youth football night
BENNINGTON -- MAYAA Football Youth Night will be held at Mount Anthony’s Spinelli Field on Friday, Oct. 4 when the Patriot football team plays host to Middlebury at 7 p.m. All boys playing in the area youth football league will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys.
Parents are asked to please accompany their children at the game or arrange supervision by a coach or another parent.
A drawing for a free football ball signed by the varsity team will be held at halftime for all MAYAA football players in attendance.
Youth soccer nights
BENNINGTON -- The Mount Anthony Union High School Athletic Department is sponsoring a pair of Youth Soccer Nights for the girls and boys area youth league soccer players.
Boys Youth Night will be Wednesday, Oct. 9 when the MAU Varsity Boys Soccer Team plays host to Rutland in a 6 p.m. game. Girls Youth Soccer Night will be Thursday, Oct. 10 when the Patriot Varsity Girls Soccer team hosts Rutland at 6 p.m. All boys and girls playing in the area youth soccer leagues will be admitted free of charge by wearing their game jerseys on these respective nights. Parents are asked to please accompany their children at the game or arrange supervision by a coach or another parent.
At the halftime of each night, there will be a 10-minute exhibition game featuring area youth soccer players. A drawing for a free soccer ball signed by the varsity Patriots will be held after the exhibition game for the youth players in attendance.
5K Pumpkin Brigade
Johnsonville, N.Y. -- The 2nd annual 5K Pumpkin Brigade race will take place on October 26.
The race starts at 10 a.m. at the Johnsonville Fire House.

If you register before October 24, the cost will be $20 for adults, and $10 for kids age 15-and-under. There will also be a Kids Run, which will cost $2 or will be free with parent’s paid 5K registration.
Registration will be available on raceday starting at 9 a.m., and the cost will increase by $5.
HOOSICK, N.Y. -- The Hoosac School will host two open gym days for local players interested in playing college basketball. The clinic will be on Saturday, September 21 and Saturday, September 28 at the Hoosac School, with the events running from 4:30-6 p.m.
Athletes in grades 10-12 are eligible to sign up.
You must register with basketball coach Mike Foster via email, at firstname.lastname@example.org, by the Friday prior to the event in order to attend. Only those who are registered will be allowed to participate.
Foster asks that each player bring their own numbered t-shirt, or a reversible practice top.

BENNINGTON -- Southern Vermont College Basketball will begin hosting Sunday morning skills clinics this week, September 8th, in the Mountaineer Athletic Center on the SVC campus.
Designed for boys and girls in grades 1-12, clinics will be directed by head men’s basketball coach Dan Engelstad, assistant coach A.J. Mahar and staff.
Cost is only $10 per player if signed up by 9 p.m. that Saturday, or $12 at the door. All registrations are cash only.
Catamount Bow Hunters hosting 3-D competition
BENNINGTON -- The Catamount Bow Hunters, Inc. will be hosting their 3-D Hunter Archery Competition on Sunday, Sept. 15 at their headquarters, located on Rt. 7S, Fuller Road in Bennington. The event will run from 7 a.m. to noon, with adults costing $10 and youths cost $5 to participate. Cubs are free with a paid adult. Food and beverage will be available. Adult League Basketball
BENNINGTON -- Any adult interested in playing basketball can contact Jerry at email@example.com for more information and to be added to an email list. The league generally plays three days a week: on Wednesday evenings and on Saturday and Sunday mornings. To offset the cost of insurance there is a $30 fee for the year, or you can pay $2 for each individual game you play.
Benn youth wrestling
BENNINGTON -- Bennington Youth Wrestling will be offering pre season youth clinics, beginning on September 4.
The clinics will run through November 6 and are offered on Wednesday nights from 6-7 p.m.
