Burr and Burton girls soccer drops Brattleboro
BENNINGTON -- Four goals in the first half was enough for the Burr and Burton Academy girls soccer team to see off Brattleboro on Thursday night, as the Bulldogs won their opening-round game in the Lady Patriot Classic 4-2.
All six goals were scored in the first half of play.
"One of our goals was to play on Saturday night [in the championship]," Burr and Burton coach Dan DeForest said. "It is a tournament atmosphere in here and we love it."
Daisy Sullivan got things going for the Bulldogs when she struck in the 14th minute of the first half, then teammate Sarah Alpert doubled the Bulldogs’ lead just two minutes later.
Brattleboro would answer, though, when Anwyn Darrow struck to make it 2-1. But the Bulldogs responded with two more goals, one from Megan Graber and one from Aggie Bisselle to make it a 4-1 game with just over 10 minutes left in the half.
Brattleboro would add one more, but the Bulldogs played air-tight defense in the second half to keep it a 4-2 game.
The Bulldogs advance to the championship game in the tournament on Saturday night, when they will play host Mount Anthony Union High School in a 7 p.m. match.
