HOOSICK, N.Y. -- The Cambridge Central School golf team earned its first win of the season, 3-2, over Stillwater. Ryan Jeskie was the medalist, shooting a 40 and winning 3-and-2 at No. 1. Other Cambridge winners included Dan Genevick and Brandon Taber.
Cambridge improves to 1-4 on the season and plays Granville at Lake St. Catherine on Tuesday.
McDaniel routs ‘Neers
WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Southern Vermont College men’s soccer suffered a tough 10-1 defeat in the opening round of the Stevenson University/McDaniel College Tournament, losing at McDaniel Friday afternoon in both teams’ season opener.
McDaniels’s Shane McCracken tallied four markers - two in each half - for the Green Terror (1-0), who finished with a 26-4 advantage in shots.
Sophomore Ruben Olivares scored for the Mountaineers (0-1), putting back a rebound in the 33rd minute for his first of the year. Junior Erik Argueta (Pico Rivera, Calif.) assisted on the score.
McDaniel senior keeper Zach Nibbelink takes the win (1-0) while Southern Vermont sophomore Chris Dunham is credited with the loss (0-1).
The tournament concludes Saturday when Southern Vermont travels to Stevenson for a 7 p.m. kickoff and McDaniel hosts La Roche College for a 4 p.m. match.
Juniata blanks SVC
HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- A staunch Juniata College defense was able to help keep the Southern Vermont College women’s soccer team off the scoreboard Friday afternoon as the Eagles took the match by an 8-0 margin in the first regular season contest of the year for both teams.
Seven Eagles notched a goal including sophomore Sarah Rhodes who tallied her first two of the 2013 campaign.
Juniata freshman goalkeeper Erin Mueller grabs her first win of the season (1-0) after posting a scoreless first half, and Southern Vermont sophomore Katie Raymond takes the loss (0-1) despite recording 18 saves.
SVC wins marathon
BENNINGTON -- Starting off on the right foot, the Southern Vermont College women’s volleyball team came out of a five-setter with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Norwich University Cadets Friday night at the Mountaineer Athletic Center in both teams’ season-opener.
Southern Vermont (1-0) ties the overall series 3-3 after Norwich (0-1) took the first three meetings. The hosts won with game scores of 25-23, 25-17, 17-25, 21-25, and 15-9.
Mountaineer junior transfer Jessica Delgado (Los Angeles, Calif.) led all players with a .235 hitting percentage, recording 24 kills and eight errors on 68 swings; she also had match highs of 26 digs and 31 points.
SVC was able to battle through a tight first set to come away with the 25-23 win after the two teams traded leads at various points through the game.
Mountaineer sophomore Sheilani Kaleopa led all players with 21 assists, and senior Carrie Baltazar was not far behind with 19 of her own to go along with 15 digs. Junior Melissa Flores had 16 kills with 17 digs.
Cosmos edge BBA
MANCHESTER -- Springfield’s Maygan Daly scored with six minutes left as the Cosmos edged Burr and Burton Academy, 1-0, in field hockey on Friday afternoon.
BBA (0-1) had a chance to equalize with seconds remaining, but was stopped as time ran out.
Cubby Arvin-DiBlasio had four saves in her first varsity game in net, while BBA had good outings from Mary Leech, Jenn Dorr, Cydney Jeffrey and Erin Cairns.
Adult League Basketball

To offset the cost of insurance there is a $30 fee for the year, or you can pay $2 for each individual game you play.
BENNINGTON -- The inaugural Matthew Ratelle Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8, at Mount Anthony Country Club with a noon shotgun start. Come celebrate the life and memory of Matt, and play the game of golf that he loved.

Benn youth wrestling
BENNINGTON -- Bennington Youth Wrestling will be offering pre season youth clinics, beginning on September 4.
The clinics will run through November 6 and are offered on Wednesday nights from 6-7 p.m.
