CHESTER -- Early misses came back to haunt the Arlington Memorial High School girls basketball team in a 46-39 loss to Green Mountain on Tuesday night.

Rayleen Sherman fired in 22 points for Arlington (10-8) to lead all scorers but the Eagles couldn’t overcome a 27-20 halftime deficit. Maddy Huntley led the Chieftains with 15.

"Take nothing away from Green Mountain, but we were sluggish all night," Eagles coach Larry Andrews said.

Arlington heads to Twin Valley for its season finale Friday night.

Rutland downs MAU

RUTLAND -- Deadlocked 31-31 with three minutes left, Rutland eluded Mount Anthony Union High School with clutch free throw shooting to earn a 44-38 win in girls basketball on Tuesday night.

Rutland, which won by 25 points in the teams’ last meeting, got 15 points from Logan Boyle. Makayla Farrara powered MAU (5-14) with 18 points while Kate Goodell had 10 and Brinkley Legacy 7.

"We made them beat us tonight, we didn’t let them have it," MAU coach Courtney Reif said.

The Patriots head into Friday night’s regular season finale at Brattlebor needing a win to become playoff-eligible.

ARLINGTON -- On Wednesday, the Arlington Memorial High School boys basketball team will play Chelsea at 7 p.m. Spectator admission costs are adults $5, senior citizens $4, and students $4. Members of the Pep Band do not have to pay, but all other student spectators must pay the admission price.

Regular season passes cannot be used for this game.

Benn LL registration

BENNINGTON -- Registration for the 2013 season will conclude on Wednesday and Thursday at the Firehouse on River Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

All players ages 5-12 in the Bennington area, including former Norshaft registrants, looking to play baseball this year need to register on one of these four dates. For all registrants a photocopy of the birth certificate is required.

The registration fee is $50 per player with a family maximum of $75 and a completed form for each player. For questions, please contact either Geoff Metcalfe at 442-5465 or Steve Marsden at 447-4908.

Mack Attack registration

BYSL hosts sign-up

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Young Women’s Softball League is hosting their annual sign-ups. All girls ages 7-12 as of January 1 are encouraged to sign up.

New player sign-ups will be held today from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

All first-year players should bring a copy of their birth certificate. Registration fee is $35 for 1 child, $50 for 2 children/family, and $70 for 3 or more.

Lax officials training

BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Lacrosse Officials Association will be offering training clinics throughout the state for individuals interested in officiating boys lacrosse.

The clinics will include 2 man mechanics, technical and personal fouls, field mechanics, proper signaling, verbal and visual communication, penalty enforcement and pre and post game preparation. The clinics are free and pre-registration is required.

The Southern Vermont clinic will be held on March 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington.

Zemianek road race returns May 5

BENNINGTON -- The 35th annual Steve Zemianek Road Race will take place on May 5 at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.

There are three different runs, a 3.8-mile course, a 10K course and a half-mile fun run for children.

The entry fee is $15 to pre-register and $3 for the fun run. A family of four can register at a reduced rate of $40.

Awards will be given to the top male and female runner and the top three in each age group.
