BELLOWS FALLS -- Arlington Memorial High School sophomore Molly Elwell set a career-high with 28 points, including eight 3-pointers, as she led the Eagles to a 65-49 win over Bellows Falls on Monday night.
Elwell scored two 2-point field goals in the first quarter and hit nothing but threes the rest of the night. She also added five assists.
"It was one of those nights when the basket looked pretty large," said Arlington (10-7) coach Larry Andrews. "But she never forced anything."
Senior Rayleen Sherman added 16 points and Julia LaCoste had 10 for the Eagles, who travel to Green Mountain today.
HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Five of the six Hoosick Falls Central School bowlers were named to the Adirondack League’s Southern Division all-stars on Monday.
Bryan Callahan, Josh McCart, Ken Marbot, Logan Brogue and Stephen Surdam all made the cut after all averaging better than 190 per game this season.
Callahan led the way with a 220 average, ahead of his teammates McCart (200) and Marbot (197). Callahan also had the high game at 277 and high series with a 751 for three games.
Granville’s Pat Loomis, Schuylerville’s Matt Ricci and Stillwater’s Charlie Dyer also made the list.
Josh Conn, averaging 189, was on the second team for the Panthers.
Local skiers compete at under-16 championships
KILLINGTON -- Mount Anthony Union High School sophomore Jessie Kuzmicki finished 10th at the latest Vermont Alpine Racing Association’s U16 championships.
Kuzmicki, skiing under the Mount Snow Training Center banner, finished in 1 minute, 38.09 seconds overall. She was 13th in her first run, then backed it up with a 14th place finish in the second.
Burr and Burton Academy skier Sanderson Kemp, also racing for MSTC, was fifth overall in 1:37.27.
Arlington playoff tickets
ARLINGTON -- On Wednesday, the Arlington Memorial High School boys basketball team will play Chelsea at 7 p.m. Spectator admission costs are adults $5, senior citizens $4, and students $4. Members of the Pep Band do not have to pay, but all other student spectators must pay the admission price. Regular season passes cannot be used for this game.

BENNINGTON -- Registration for the 2013 season will conclude on Wednesday and Thursday at the Firehouse on River Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
All players ages 5-12 in the Bennington area, including former Norshaft registrants, looking to play baseball this year need to register on one of these four dates. For all registrants a photocopy of the birth certificate is required.

BYSL hosts sign-up
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Young Women’s Softball League is hosting their annual sign-ups. All girls ages 7-12 as of January 1 are encouraged to sign up.
New player sign-ups will be held today from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
All first-year players should bring a copy of their birth certificate. Registration fee is $35 for 1 child, $50 for 2 children/family, and $70 for 3 or more.

Lax officials training
BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Lacrosse Officials Association will be offering training clinics throughout the state for individuals interested in officiating boys lacrosse.
The clinics will include 2 man mechanics, technical and personal fouls, field mechanics, proper signaling, verbal and visual communication, penalty enforcement and pre and post game preparation. The clinics are free and pre-registration is required.
The Southern Vermont clinic will be held on March 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington.

Zemianek road race returns May 5
BENNINGTON -- The 35th annual Steve Zemianek Road Race will take place on May 5 at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.
There are three different runs, a 3.8-mile course, a 10K course and a half-mile fun run for children.
The entry fee is $15 to pre-register and $3 for the fun run. A family of four can register at a reduced rate of $40.
Awards will be given to the top male and female runner and the top three in each age group.
