SPRINGFIELD -- Devin Brown and Claudia Mosher each tallied double figures for the Burr and Burton Academy girls basketball team as it raced past Springfield, 62-42, on Saturday.
Brown scored 13 and Mosher 10 as the Bulldogs (9-9) turned a five-point halftime lead into a 20-point win. Even with a depleted roster, said coach Terry Merrow, all eight girls who dressed scored for BBA.
Marauders place at Ballston Spa
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. -- Twenty-five swimmers from the Bennington Marauders Swim Team competed at their last regular season meet in Ballston Spa on Saturday. Of the 25 swimmers, 15 placed in the top 12.
Many swimmers also qualified for the upcoming Golds Championships.

Hale heads to NCAA championships
KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Mount Anthony Union High School graduate Zak Hale (133 pound) qualified for next month’s NCAA championships with a third-place finish for Anderson University at the D-II Super Region I Championships on Saturday.
Seeded third, the freshman, a three-time Vermont champion and the second-winningest wrestler in state history, bounced back from a loss with a pair of decisions to earn a spot in the national tournament in Birmingham, Ala., on March 8-9.
"This is an incredible accomplishment for Zak," Anderson coach Dock Kelly said. "To qualify for the national tournament as a true fresman is an impressive feat."
Bennington Little League registration
BENNINGTON -- Registration for the 2013 season will begin on Feb. 20 and 21 at the Firehouse on River Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration concludes on Feb. 27 and 28 again at the same time and place.
All players ages 5-12 in the Bennington area, including former Norshaft registrants, looking to play baseball this year need to register on one of these four dates. For all registrants a photocopy of the birth certificate is required.

Mack Attack registration

BYSL hosts sign-up
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Young Women’s Softball League is hosting their annual sign-ups. All girls ages 7-12 as of January 1 are encouraged to sign up.
New player sign-ups will be held Feb. 26 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
All first-year players should bring a copy of their birth certificate. Registration fee is $35 for 1 child, $50 for 2 children/family, and $70 for 3 or more.

Lax officials training
BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Lacrosse Officials Association will be offering training clinics throughout the state for individuals interested in officiating boys lacrosse.
The clinics will include 2 man mechanics, technical and personal fouls, field mechanics, proper signaling, verbal and visual communication, penalty enforcement and pre and post game preparation. The clinics are free and pre-registration is required.
The Southern Vermont clinic will be held on March 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington.

Zemianek road race returns May 5
BENNINGTON -- The 35th annual Steve Zemianek Road Race will take place on May 5 at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.
There are three different runs, a 3.8-mile course, a 10K course and a half-mile fun run for children.
The entry fee is $15 to pre-register and $3 for the fun run. A family of four can register at a reduced rate of $40.
Awards will be given to the top male and female runner and the top three in each age group.
