RENSSELAER, N.Y. -- Third-seeded Greenwich erased an early deficit to bounce league rival No. 11 Hoosick Falls Central School from the Class C tournament with a 44-32 win on Friday night at Hudson Valley Community College.
Colin Oswald (17 points) connected on five 3-pointers, including three straight to lift the Witches (15-5) from an 18-9 hole in the second quarter. Greenwich led 20-18 at halftime.
Taylor Baker and Randy Tutunjian scored seven points apiece for Hoosick Falls, which finishes its season at 10-10.
BBA clinches 2-seed
RUTLAND -- Putting the clamps down on Mount St. Joseph in the second quarter, the Burr and Burton Academy boys basketball team pulled ahead and never looked back, beating the Mounties, 53-41, in both teams regular season finale on Friday night.
With a 18-2 record to finish the year, the Bulldogs clinch the No. 2 seed in the Division II tournament and the program’s best record since 2006.
Weston Muench fueled BBA, which led 42-27 at the end of the third quarter, with 17 points while Joey Shehadi added 15 and Jake Stalcup collected a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
No player hit double figures for MSJ (13-7).
Eagles edge Horde
WEST RUTLAND -- Three players tallied double-figures for Arlington Memorial High School as the Eagles closed out the regular season with a 54-43 win against West Rutland in boys basketball on Friday night.
DJ Jennings led all scorers with 19 points, going 7-of-9 at the line. Troy Sweet added 14, including the Eagles’ only field goal of the second quarter, and Olden Dwyer hit for a dozen.
West Rutland (13--7), paced by 15 apiece from Nick Anagnos and Joey Callahan, trailed 24-19 at intermission.
The Eagles finish the season at 12-8 and lock up the No. 7 seed in the Division IV tournament, which begins next week, according to coach Chris Taft.
"We’re excited to host someone at the Eagles’ Nest," Taft said.
Colonels sink MAU
BRATTLEBORO -- Up by four points at halftime, Brattleboro held off Mount Anthony Union High School for a 51-39 win in boys basketball on Friday night.
Jackson Batchelder led the Colonels with 18 points while Aaryngston Bibens paced MAU with 11. Both teams finish the regular season at 6-14.
Bennington Little League registration
BENNINGTON -- Registration for the 2013 season will begin on Feb. 20 and 21 at the Firehouse on River Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration concludes on Feb. 27 and 28 again at the same time and place.
All players ages 5-12 in the Bennington area, including former Norshaft registrants, looking to play baseball this year need to register on one of these four dates. For all registrants a photocopy of the birth certificate is required.

BYSL hosts sign-up
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Young Women’s Softball League is hosting their annual sign-ups. All girls ages 7-12 as of January 1 are encouraged to sign up.
New player sign-ups will be held Feb. 26 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
All first-year players should bring a copy of their birth certificate. Registration fee is $35 for 1 child, $50 for 2 children/family, and $70 for 3 or more.

Lax officials training
BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Lacrosse Officials Association will be offering training clinics throughout the state for individuals interested in officiating boys lacrosse.
The clinics will include 2 man mechanics, technical and personal fouls, field mechanics, proper signaling, verbal and visual communication, penalty enforcement and pre and post game preparation. The clinics are free and pre-registration is required.
The Southern Vermont clinic will be held on March 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington.

Zemianek road race returns May 5
BENNINGTON -- The 35th annual Steve Zemianek Road Race will take place on May 5 at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.
There are three different runs, a 3.8-mile course, a 10K course and a half-mile fun run for children.
The entry fee is $15 to pre-register and $3 for the fun run. A family of four can register at a reduced rate of $40.
Awards will be given to the top male and female runner and the top three in each age group.
