MANCHESTER -- Tyler King and Chris Kornaros each scored their first varsity goals Saturday night as the Burr and Burton Academy boys hockey team throttled Burlington, 10-2, at Riley Rink.
Sean Paradis and Brock Pollard each added hat tricks for BBA (13-3-1), while King tallied twice.
Zack Stewart stopped 21 shots in goal for the Bulldogs to defeat the Seahorses (1-15-1).
Fourth-ranked Burr and Burton, without a loss in its last 13 games, hosts No. 2 Northfield on Wednesday night at 5:45 p.m. in a key Lake Division showdown.
Tide turns back BBA
BARRE -- Burr and Burton Academy seized an early one-goal lead but Spaulding roared back to defeat the Bulldogs, 5-2, in Metro Division girls hockey on Saturday.
Mary Leech scored an unassisted goal and Jordan Harmon lit the lamp off an assist from Megan Grabher for the Bulldogs (6-10-1). Sophomore goaltender Jennifer Dorr made 27 saves.
Ellen Gosselin led the Crimson Tide (12-2-1) with three goals and an assist.
BBA travels to face Essex on Wednesday night.
Catholic ousts Indians
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Fifteenth-seeded Saratoga Catholic broke free with a 21-point third quarter to bounce No. 18 Cambridge from the Class C boys basketball sectionals with a 60-48 win on Saturday.
Keagan Murphy led Saratoga with 26 points. Shaeden Mosso and Chris Warnke powered the Indians (0-17) with 12 each.
Wasps upend Arlington
WOODSTOCK -- Alex Hawley scored 15 of his 16 points in the second half but it wasn’t enough for Arlington Memorial High School, which suffered a 60-48 setback against Woodstock in boys basketball on Saturday.
The Wasps (10-8), a Division II squad, led 24-15 at halftime before the Eagles (10-7) cut the deficit to six midway through the third quarter.
DJ Jennings also had 12 for Arlington, while Connor Fegard paced Woodstock with 22 points.
Mount Mansfield wins Vt. dance championship
VERGENNES -- Mount Manfield edged South Burlington by just 0.25 points, 480.5 to 480.25, to win the Vermont dance state championship on Saturday.
Burr and Burton Academy, third in Pom and fourth in Hip Hop, took fifth overall. Mount Anthony, fifth in Pom, was eighth.
Lesley drops SVC
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Lesley University outscored the Southern Vermont College women’s basketball team 40-28 in the second half to overcome a three-point halftime deficit on its way to a 62-53 win in both teams’ season finale Saturday night.
A layup by freshman guard Tori Hoefs with 10 minutes left in the second half gave the Lynx a 41-40 lead and they would not look back as they led the rest of the way to get the win
Leading the Mountaineers (3-22) was freshman guard Amber Flagg who finished with a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds. Classmate Sarah McDonald was busy down low as she chipped in with nine points and ten boards.
Lynx top Mountaineers
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Matt Gibson celebrated his Senior Night at Lesley the right way, scoring 12 of his 16 points in the first half to lead the Lynx to a 76-64 win over Southern Vermont College in the season finale at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols in New England Collegiate Conference action Saturday night.
For SVC, senior guard Taeshon Johnson finished his career with an impressive performance, going for a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Travis Severs added 12 points.
With the win, Lesley finishes the season with a 9-16 record, including going 7-9 in NECC action. The Mountaineers finish up at 1-24 and 1-15 in the conference.
Colonels sink Bulldogs
BRATTLEBORO -- Brattleboro clawed back from a halftime deficit to clip Burr and Burton Academy, 49-45, in girls basketball action on Friday night.
Claudia Mosher led BBA (7-8) with nine points. Rory Halligan and Devin Brown added eight apiece.
Bennington Little League registration
BENNINGTON -- Registration for the 2013 season will begin on Feb. 20 and 21 at the Firehouse on River Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration concludes on Feb. 27 and 28 again at the same time and place.
All players ages 5-12in the Bennington area, including former Norshaft registrants, looking to play baseball this year need to register on one of these four dates. For all registrants a photocopy of the birth certificate is required.

Lax officials training
BENNINGTON -- The Vermont Lacrosse Officials Association will be offering training clinics throughout the state for individuals interested in officiating boys lacrosse.
The clinics will include 2 man mechanics, technical and personal fouls, field mechanics, proper signaling, verbal and visual communication, penalty enforcement and pre and post game preparation. The clinics are free and pre-registration is required.
The Southern Vermont clinic will be held on March 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington.

Zemianek road race returns May 5
BENNINGTON -- The 35th annual Steve Zemianek Road Race will take place on May 5 at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.
There are three different runs, a 3.8-mile course, a 10K course and a half-mile fun run for children.
The entry fee is $15 to pre-register and $3 for the fun run. A family of four can register at a reduced rate of $40.
Awards will be given to the top male and female runner and the top three in each age group.
