BENNINGTON -- Aaryngston Bibens notched a double-double Tuesday night as the Mount Anthony Union High School boys basketball team picked up its second win of the season, defeating Mill River, 63-46, in Marble Valley League action.
Bibens, a senior, racked up 25 points and 18 rebounds for the Patriots (2-9), who led wire to wire and pulled away after leading by just six midway through the second half.
"He continues to carry us at key moments of the game," MAU coach Dan Sleeman said. "He's our leader on the court."
Mount Anthony led 32-24 at halftime and 47-35 heading into the final period after Evan Sparta sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Sparta finished with nine points and nine rebounds, while James Levin added seven points and nine rebounds. Ben Gelheiser and Jason Redden each chipped in with six points.
Mark Goyette led Mill River (5-6) with 14 points. Jay Carleton added 13.
The Patriots went 19-of-23 at the free throw. They host Burr and Burton on Thursday.
BBA clips Minutemen
CLARENDON -- Patient on offense in the first half and producing enough plays in transition down the stretch, the Burr and Burton Academy girls basketball team trimmed Mill River, 43-37, on Tuesday night.
Playing without their two seniors, the Bulldogs (5-4) got 12 points from freshman Hannah Nicholson and 11 points from sophomore Claudia Mosher.
"A lot of kids got some quality playing time tonight and stepped up to the challenge," BBA coach Terry Merrow said.
BBA led by three after the first quarter and 26-20 at the break. Nicole Aines led Mill River (4-6) with 15 points while Trish Burden was held to seven thanks to the defense of Olson Humphrey, Merrow said.
Becker dumps SVC
LEICESTER, Mass. -- Freshman Rashaun Liggon and junior Tyler Roberson each poured in 17 points to lead host Becker College to an 88-51 win over visiting Southern Vermont College in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Tuesday night.
The Hawks are now 10-7 overall with a 6-2 record in conference play while the Mountaineers see their record drop to 0-17 and 0-9 against NECC opponents.
Senior guard Taeshon Johnson led Southern Vermont with a game-high 20 points, shooting 9-of-18 from the floor. Sophomore guard Travis Severs added 17 points and two steals. Freshman guard Jacob Schongar contributed six rebounds and three blocks.
Three other Becker players hit double figures in the win.
Elms routs Mountaineers
CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Southern Vermont College women's basketball team fell into a halftime deficit it could not overcome in a 75-45 loss at Elms College Tuesday night in a New England Collegiate Conference tilt.
Mountaineer freshman captain Amber Flaggrecorded a game-high 21 points, her fifth game of 20 or more this season, but three Blazers recorded double-digits, including Jen Normandie and d Denisha Parks, who matched one another for 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Elms led 37-16 at halftime and continued to pull away in the second half, extending its lead to as many as 33.
The Mountaineers (3-13 overall, 3-6 NECC) return to the court Saturday afternoon when they host Daniel Webster College at 1 p.m. Elms improves to 8-8 overall and 7-2 in conference with the win.
Patriots edge Cosmos
SPRINGFIELD -- The Mount Anthony Union High School girls basketball team made it two wins in a row with a 60-55 victory over Springfield on Monday night.
Junior Makayla Farrara led all scorers with 24 points, while senior Lacy Parmenter had a season-high 18 for the Patriots. MAU improves to 3-7 on the season and travels to Otter Valley on Jan. 28.
Zemianek road race returns May 5
BENNINGTON -- The 35th annual Steve Zemianek Road Race will take place on May 5 at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.
There are three different runs, a 3.8-mile course, a 10K course and a half-mile fun run for children.
The entry fee is $15 to pre-register and $3 for the fun run. A family of four can register at a reduced rate of $40.
Awards will be given to the top male and female runner and the top three in each age group.

Monument Soccer signups
BENNINGTON -- The Monument Soccer Club has sign-ups next week at the Bennington Sports Center. Monument is a soccer club that participates in the Capital District Youth Soccer League in the spring and runs from April-June with a 10-game season.
Any interested boy or girl from U8-U18 can sign up.
