LOCAL SPORTS ROUNDUP

NEW LEBANON, N.Y. -- The Mount Anthony Union High School boys and girls swim teams strolled to convincing wins against New Lebanon in a Berkshire League showdown Friday.

The MAU girls won eight of 11 events to carry the day, 59-35, while the boys claimed seven of eight races to post a 52-11 rout. Both teams lead the league’s Northern Division.

Phebe Hall (200 individual medley), Bridget Ahearn (50 freestyle), Kate Montague (100 butterfly), Kate Ahearn (100 free) and Heather Foley (500 free) secured individual wins for the Patriot girls (8-1), who swept the three relays. Swimming in support of the winners were Haley Goepel, KC Tiffany, Cyonn Alexander, Stephanie Souls, Abby Cohen, Baylee Ports and Emily Cross.

Individual winners for the boys (7-2) included Sean Hamilton (200 free), Robert Murphy (200 IM, 100 free), Ryan Spencer (100 backstroke) and Austin Ulrich Becker in the 100 breaststroke. The boys also swept the relays.

Eagles hang on at MSJ

RUTLAND -- Arlington Memorial High School nailed just enough late free throws to survive a shaky fourth quarter and earn a 55-53 win over Mount St. Joseph Academy in girls basketball on Friday night.

The Eagles (2-4) led 35-25 at halftime and pushed that advantage to 14 points entering the final frame. Julia Lacoste paced Arlington with 21 points while Molly Elwell added 14.

Becca Solari chipped in with seven points while Rayleen Sherman and Brooke Hawley each had six.

Alex Reedy powered MSJ, which travels to Arlington for a rematch Tuesday night, with 16 points.

Horses trip up Panthers

HOOSICK , N.Y. -- Schuylerville silenced the Hoosick Falls Central School boys basketball team in the second and third quarters to pull away for a 48-20 win in Wasaren League action on Friday night.

Up 17-8 after one quarter, the Black Horses held the Panthers (4-5 overall, 4-3 league) to just two points in each of the next two frames to build a 30-point lead.

Taylor Baker led Hoosick Falls with four points. Nine players scored for Schuylerville (8-1, 7-0), led by Dan Waldron’s 14-point night.

Hoosick Falls returns to action Monday night, hosting Mount Anthony.

Indians’ rally falls short

GRANVILLE, N.Y. -- After stumbling out of the blocks, the Cambridge Central School boys basketball team poured in a second-half rally that fell just short in an 83-71 loss to Granville in Wasaren League play Friday night.

Shaeden Mosso led a trio of Indians (0-9 overall, 0-7 league) in double figures with 26 points, including five 3-pointers, as they struck for 45 points after halftime.

Matt Parmenter added 18 points and Ethan English 17.

Granville’s Jared Beattie led all scorers with 31 points.

H.F. tops Schuylerville

SCHUYLERVILLE, N.Y. -- Carsen Williams and Rachel Pine combined for 26 points Friday night as the Hoosick Falls Central School girls basketball team toppled Schuylerville, 49-25, in Wasaren League play.

Williams led all scorers with 14 points while Pine added 12. Kelly Pine chipped in with eight for the Panthers (7-3 overall, 5-2 league) , who shut out the Black Horses in the second quarter to take a 20-10 lead at halftime.

Zemianek road race returns May 5

BENNINGTON -- The 35th annual Steve Zemianek Road Race will take place on May 5 at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.

There are three different runs, a 3.8-mile course, a 10K course and a half-mile fun run for children.

The entry fee is $15 to pre-register and $3 for the fun run. A family of four can register at a reduced rate of $40.

Awards will be given to the top male and female runner and the top three in each age group.

Monument Soccer signups

BENNINGTON -- The Monument Soccer Club has sign-ups next week at the Bennington Sports Center. Monument is a soccer club that participates in the Capital District Youth Soccer League in the spring and runs from April-June with a 10-game season.
